Check out the article in the current issue of AR Guns & Hunting called "New Horse in Town". It is a scoop on the new Colt Competition rifle that is being released at the SHOT show tomorrow. I got to test drive it and wrote the article as a result. I checked with the mods before posting btw.

There is video of the rifle in action at the range. It was VERY fun to shoot and has a patent pending innovative adjustable gas block (that requires no tools).

I shot Colt's when they were called CAR15's in 1969. This is just more eye candy. H&K will be building the new M-4's for Uncle Sam. Fancy it not always the best. It is called marketing. In the end they will shoot just like the one you own, now. It is not the outside of the barrel, it is the inside that does the job.

Not sure I agree with you as I did just that (shoot it) and no it didn't (shoot the same as the ones I own). I guess it depends on how much you discern a difference between features, e.g., one trigger group versus another, one barrel length versus another, one stock versus another, etc. Yes it shot the same in function and performance mostly, but the configuration is not the same as my other rifles.

It's not a magic rifle, but a great set of components that you can buy off the shelf. And the adjustable gas block is brand new -- nobody has one like it except maybe the Noveske SB, but that is only OFF, ON, Suppressed. This is highly adjustable and you don't need tools to do so.

My rifle doesn't do that.

I'm not sure.

I must have missed that. Do you mean the piston system, or was there another one?

I didn't realize they had released them yet. I knew it was to be around now, but at the time of the writing it was not clear.

Yep, pricey. Thank you for posting the links.

It is/was clearly built with the competition shooter in mind. That's not everybody.

Sorry but just don't see what this has over any other AR?? I mean how often do you really need to be adjusting your gas?

In my eyes one more thing to break! Easier to find a set screw and a allen wrench then it would be to get another one of them quickie, pulley, twisty things!

Stag Arms has a 3 gun model which has a better stock and the same stuff other then gas block thingy. Cheaper and in my eyes suits the competition shooter better! Add the sites Stag offers and your at the same price or less then the Colt and you have a one up!

Not often, but a couple of times I suppose. First when you are switching between having a suppressor on or not. Second if you are shooting different loads and want the absolute minimum amount of gas to operate the action. In talking to Wilcox that was a feature they were targeting specifically for the competition shooter (3 gun). The only other time would be if you were in a competition and for whatever reason you decided you wanted to make an adjustment.

And I hear ya on the allen wrench being simpler, but that's only if you never want to change it. Then it's not as simple because often that screw has loctite on it. Or at a minimum you have to find that tiny allen wrench.

Anyway, it is not for everyone, but was a heck of a lot of fun to shoot.

Why?

I just wish this oversaturation of the market would bring the prices down even more.

How long till Henery Rifle Co. comes out with a black rifle?(And no, I don't mean that monstrosity that Mossberg has come out with)
