do any of you use a combination gun for calling varmints. such as 12gauge over a 223 caliber etc. what kind of optics do you use on them?

Baikal IZH-94 now Spartan SPR-94 is one option. I use a 30-06/12ga but am looking for a 6.5 Swed or 223 over 12 ga. I currently use Leupold Vx-I 2-7 with eye relief.

Great option, infact I found the review on Predatormasters and that caused me to go with the Baikal.

I have the russian gun before reminton took them over. I like it alot. I have never had the problem some talk about with the shotgun hitting different then the rifle.

I shoot a Savage 24V in 222Rem over 20 ga & it seems to work very well. The below bobcat pic was taken with that gun over the weekend while I was on a friends ranch in south Texas. I have a cheap BSA 3x9x40 lighted recticle scope on mine with over/under mounts. I like the barrel selector on the trigger no way to mess up.
I'd wonder about the Remington just because the shotgun barrel is on top, that is a long way between your scope & the rifle barrel. just my .02.

My Savage .223/12 gauge has an inexpensive Smith & Wesson 1.5-6X shotgun scope on it. It is low mounted with heavy duty Weaver rings. It is a bit bulky but has worked out very well. I like the circle at the center of the crosshairs and the broad field of view. It is quick at short range and works well enough for longer ranges. But I use the gun almost exclusively for woods and sandhill thicket calling on the 1.5 setting so I don't really want a high powered scope.

At one time I had a Valmet 12ga/222 that worked very well. The valmet has a barrel alignment system that allows you to zero the rifle at long range and then have the shotgun on target at short range. I had a Leupold 1 x 6 on it.
