Commercial diameter vs. mil spec diameter

What is the difference between these 2? Which one provides a tighter fit? I am looking at getting a new stock and want a tight fit with no rattle or slop.

They have a different diameter. I don't think one is inherently better than the other, you just need to buy a quality one. The collapsible MagPul stocks have a lever that clinches down and eliminates any slop. I have a MagPul ACS and there is no slop. I also have a UBR which feels even more solid, but is heavier.

Mil Spec is required for LMT and some other types of stocks. Get what ever it says the type of stock you want requires. In either application they will work about the same as long as you have a good stock that matches the type of tube you buy.

I didn't like the movement in the 5/6 positon stocks which didn't affect accuracy, i just did not like the movement, so I bought a Magpul CTR with the friction lock which allows adjustments for different shooters but could be locked in placed with zero movement thus far.

Here is additional information on Mil vs Comm and how to tell them apart:

Joebob,

Thanks for getting my CTR stock to me so quickly.

Correct me if im interpreting this wrong. So both commercial and military will fit any type of lower receiver?
You just have to make sure your buffer tube matches your stock?

Exactly

The mil spec tube is a touch smaller in diameter, a touch shorter, and the threads are a class two thread for the whole thread. A commercial tube has a class two thread half way, then turns to a class one. In other words on a mil spec tube the whole thread front to back has a sharp peek. The commercial tube the first half has a sharp peek and the second half has a flat top to the thread. This makes no real difference. You can put a commercial stock on a mil spec tube, but a mil spec stock will not go on a commercial tube.

Yes.

Mil spec or commercial will fit any lower.
You just need to make sure your buffer tube outside diameter matches the inside diameter of your stock.
