Communication while on stand?

Just curious if anyone uses any type of in ear device for 2 way communication on stand. Nights when it is bitter cold (hoods up) and windy, we find it difficult to hear each other. Just wondering if any of you guys use anything like this. How does it work for you? What do you recommend?

I'm not against coms but IMO its not needed because I'm ALWAYS arms length away from whom I'm hunting with, a simple tap to get your buddies attention that something is coming doesn't require verbal communication. If an animal pops out really close then odds are your party will get caught by their movement so we always just kill the ones solo that pop-up from nowhere.

I can see an advantage moving into a set but not a huge deal for calling but would be nice if you was stalking to a bait pile with others.

One thing I'm definitely not a fan of is separation from each other. Animals can and do come from any direction while calling and bad shit can happen if you cant see and know EXACTLY where everyone is. From my experience hunting in brush country being very far apart makes it almost impossible to see an animal at the same time because everyone's line of sight and shooting lanes are vastly different.

I see what you are saying, but I have to believe that verbal communication is way better when you are splitting the 360° for scanning or coordinating when multiples are coming in. We are always right next to each other, but not always within arms reach. Wind howling, windmills turning in the area, balaclava on and hoods up, and 55 years of playing in rock bands, firearms, and working in an industrial setting, does NOT make for the best hearing conditions at a whisper. Lol

If all that’s going on and the caller, they ain’t gonna hear you.
When I do hunt with someone…I am always within arms reach and if repositioning is needed it’s verbally communicated and acknowledged or no shot is taken.

My hunting partner and I are starting to use Baofeng GMRS radios with PTT earbuds. At night, we hunt back to back on opposite sides of the truck. With the radios, we can signal each other when the stand is over or alert to incoming coyotes.

During the day, we can do something similar to have one hunter cover upwind and one hunter cover the downwind.

It is good practice for SHTF. COMs are a force multiplier.

Thanks Dave. How are they working out so far? I was hoping for something without wires and a direct connection as opposed to PTT

I know of people that do a group cell phone call with Bluetooth headsets.
I hunt in places without signal, so I've always used 2-way radios with PTT headsets. If you go that route, I would avoid the cheap Midland radios and go for something that uses Kenwood-style connector. That will open up your options to a lot more headset choices.

We are using Baofeng UV-5G radios. I looked into Bluetooth for a wireless headset. But, the reviews aren’t great and they drain batteries.
