Contender barrel???

Found a used 223 Super 14 barrel in a pawn shop. It has a weird scope mount that runs the full length of the barrel and a 2.5x8 scope. (don't remember the brand) Its a blued barrel but the rust monkeys got to it pretty bad. I told the guy it was pretty rough and he said only on the outside. Well duh! They're asking $275.00 for it but I'm thinking in the condition its in that's a lot high. Am I right or wrong? Also, is there any fix? I was thinking maybe bead blast and some type of coating or just a big pass.

Seems high unless that's a Leupold Vari-X III. Even then, I'd want to see the bore. If the rust is only external, you're right, you could bead blast it and cerakote it.

I have a Super 14 .223 for my Contender and it's a very accurate barrel with hanloaded 40-grain Hornady V-maxes.

While not pretty a bead blast and Parkerizing might be another viable solution vs painting. Personally I'd try to get it at a bit lower as a off the cuff response. But I'm a cheap skate. Which has caused me to miss out on some decent deals.

May be high in the condition BUT Highly dependent on at least a couple things. The full length rail, and the scope brand.

Ssk did some full length rails that were pretty nice and may add some value, especially if it’s an Ssk barrel in itself.
The scope, if it’s a quality brand like the leupold mentioned, or maybe even a weaver. They made a 2.5x8 also.

Its a blued T/C barrel. The bore looked OK with the eye. Maybe I'll go take another look and do some haggling. IDK, I don't need it very bad but we know all about the "need".

I did see a video years ago about taking a copper penny and filling the pits in. Looked like a lot of work to me.
