I am about to aquire a contender .223 in a 14" barrel and was wandering if anyone had any input on these? Good or bad would be appreciated.

Not much to say except saweet!!!!! Awesome little gun!! Good luck and post some pics /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have a 14" 223 and like it. Have shot many groundhogs with it. very accurate. Also have the 21" barrel for it, and it is also very accurate. both are fun to shoot, and very handy.

I love mine. I have killed water filled milk jugs consistently at 400 yards. Took a few shots to get dialed in but then connected with several without missing. Great shooting and a lot of fun with blue dot loads.

I just traded mine because over the last several years it was simply collecting dust. It was a great gun tho. The only problem I havd was it was a package that came with a 1.5x TC scope. It was not near enough for the potential of the .223.It needed more power. Rather then invest in more powerful scope on a gun that I don't use I would opt for something I would use. It was a tough call but I decided to turn it into trading material. You will like it! But for me it was a sort of novelty, not something I would turn too when I head out in the field.

I have a 15 inch .204 barrel on order for my Encore. I have a 14 inch .17 HMR barrel for my Contender and a 15 inch 7mm-08 encore barrel already. They are a load of fun! I'll probably add a .223 in the future some time.

My contender is a bit of a dust collecter also but our gun laws prohibit new T/C pistols so unless it was in the state before 98 its not legal, so mine is a treasure.

I am planning on putting a red dot on it for night hunting. We are shotgun and 22LR only at night and it would be nice to have it for the 50-75yard coyotes in the snow. My old scope setup was a rifle but with the eye relief and kick I started to anticipate the shot and was afraid of developing an automatic flinch.

I had one but with a 1-12" twist it wouldn't shoot heaver bullets so i sold it as i'm not much of a squirrel shooter.

Now i'm running a 6.8 barrel and couldn't be happier with it.

I have one in 22 Hornet, a blast to shoot. I will be getting a barrel in 223 also. It's a challenge to take a coyote with a handgun.

Do get a variable pistol scope though. I have a Burris 2X on mine, I'm limited to 100 yards.

I picked it up this morning with 14".223 and a 14" 7-30 waters barrel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I can't wait to shoot it. What do you guys think about the 7-30 waters for deer? Is it hard to find ammo for it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

In regards to the T/C Contender Super 14 in .223, it is probably one of my most favorite Varmint Handgun Cartridges. I bought my first T/C Contender Super 14 .223 Handgun in 1982, and have had several since then. I have topped them with the 7x Burris Intermediate Eye Relief Scopes, the 2.5x7x Burris LER Handgun Scope, 3x9x Burris LER Handgun Scopes and the 3x12x Burris LER Handgun Scopes.

With the proper ammo, the right scope and a solid rest these handguns are capable of some amazing accuracy. I have shot Prairie Dogs at an honest 1/4 mile (yes 440 yards) with a T/C Contender Super 14 in .223. No you don't do this on the first shot or every shot for that matter, but with the help of someone spotting your shots you can walk em in. Yes these handguns (again with the right ammo, scope and rest) are capable of that kind of accuracy.

I am quite sure you will enjoy your Super 14 T/C Contender in .223 if you are into handguns and shooting handguns.

In regards to the 7-30 Waters, I used this cartridge in a 10" T/C Contender a few years back. I was shooting 120gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with Winchester W-748 Powder in Federal Brass. Accuracy was consistantly between 1" to 1 1/4" for 5 shots from the bench at 100 yards.

I was fortunate enough to take 3 Whitetails with the 7-30 Waters and a buddy took a nice Whitetail Buck with it also. Every single Whitetail we shot with the 7-30 Waters - 120gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip was a one shot kill. The one 4x4 Buck I shot and a Button Buck I shot were DRT and never ttook a step. The Whitetail Doe I shot ran about 30 yards (in a circle before collapsing and the Buck my buddy shot rran about 30 yards before collapsing. None of the 4 required a second or even finishing shot.

Last year I used a borrowed 15" T/C Encore in .243 Winchester with an 80gr. Speer Hot Core Spitzer to take two Whitetails on January 1st at slightly more than 200 yards each. I am currently trying to purchase this Encore I borrowed. Yep these things really get in your blood.

Good luck with the Contenders but be WARNED these things are ADDICTING.

Larry
