Coolest bobcat ever!

Apparently this melanistic bobcat was caught down in Florida. It is one of the most unique and coolest looking bobcats I've ever seen a photograph of.

Beautiful and rare animal! Black phase bobcats have been discovered in the past on very rare occasion so this isn't a first, but they certainly aren't found behind every other tree in the forest, that's for sure. Thanks for sharing this picture, neat animal.

If I'm not mistaken, there have been about 11 melanistic bobcats on record in Florida. This is the first I've seen a picture of. I keep hopin' one will stray across the line into south Georgia.

Never seen anything like it, Heck ive never even heard of them till now.. Cool pictures Troy, thanks for posting them up..

yeah it's captive, i saw the claws also but didn't post, trimmed purrrrfect. pretty cool for a captive though if people are allowed to see it. i would imagine a private catch and cage somewhere. maybe at 'The Worlds Biggest Alligator Farm'!

Cool cat, that is awesome. I've never seen one like that. There have been several people that swear they've seen a black mt lion around here.

Gonz, haven't jaguars made their way up into New Mexico? Jaguars also come in a melanistic or black phase as well, although rare. I can't imagine that it would be impossible people have seen a black jaguar in the southwest.

Jags have been seen along the border down toward Tucson and the Barry Goldwater Range, hard to tell them apart (i've never seen one in the wild, but by pics and looking through a scope i would think bobcat or small lion). I always thought that the black phase bobs still had the white markings behind the ears, guess i was wrong on that. i have taken 2 black coyotes but have never seen an all black cat in the wild. would it not be cool to have the black one in a mount and then have an albino next to him? what would the odds of a hunter seeing and harvesting the 2 most rare colorings!!!

Never heard of trimming a cats claws as a widely used practice. I doubt anyone "trimmed" a bobcats claws, But I dare you to try. It would be youtube worthy. lol

Seeing as those 2 particular claws are so close together they practically touch each other, they are probably kept worn down to the same length. It's not a new phenomenon.
