Coon bait?

Well last night we caught a whole bunch of bluegill and after cleaning them i put them in freezer bags with some water and stuck um in the freezer. Do u think it will work for coon bait in a box trap?

I'd bet they work just fine. I've used clam remains from cleaning the clams and they work fine for all kinds of critters. Coons, otter, bobcat and possum all seem to like that type of stuff.

Hi Hunter,

I'm afraid that just about any "bait" that will catch coons will catch skunks. You could try an ear of fresh sweet corn with the husk partially peeled back so it doesn't start to dry out right away. You might also try grape jelly or better yet a bunch of wild grapes. Have fun.

The bluegills will work fine.Yes, skunks will be atracted too. But, if you can set the box trap in a small stream or shallow area of a pond, you will keep most trash animals out.Set it in about 1 inch of water. This cannot be done if freezing is possible.

I agree,it will work fine for coon and anything.

The best way I have found to catch coon without catching as much other game was to cut an apple in half and put peanut butter on it.
