coon dogs

I am looking to get me a coondog.I would like To no which kind to get.And what do yall think about southern Curs for coons.Do you no of anyone who has coondogs in alabama.That is where i live.Any suggestions will do
 
You should try both of these websites: www.coonhoundcentral.com and www.prohound.com great info on coonhounds and lots of guys right down there in your neck of the woods. There are everal types that make great coonhounds including the curs. My suggestion is to hook up with one of the guys down in your area and go on a comp coon hunt and get to see several varities of dogs working and then decide which breed you's like to try first. black&tans or blueticks for coons. i donot now about the cur dogs. so good luck to you and run

From what I have seen southerner, is it's all in the nose, no matter what type of breed. Some dogs come on fast, others it takes 2 or 3 years for the light to really come on. Black and Tans seem to take the longest. Walkers the quickest.It also depends on how much time you are willing to spend working with your dog's. If you see a breed you really like the look of, gas it, is my opinion. All dogs seem to learn better from older dogs. Just put in allot of time with them and have lots of patients. And from what I have seen out of Curs they lean toward a HOT nose. You can make a dog out of any breed if you work with them.
