Hi everyone,
I want to start coon hunting and would like to know when the best time to hunt is daylight, dark, what time, full moon, no moon, what time of year, all the details.

I live in california and the laws allow a shotgun and no larger than a 22 caliber rifle at night and an artifical light no bigger than 9 volts with out the land owners permisson.

I see tracks but no holes in the trees there are 5 ponds where I hunt.
So all the coon huters please help.
Thanks,
Zach House

They make coon tapes and digital sounds, but I have found the best thing sounds for calling them in are bird distresses I like yellow hammer, flicker distress and my favorite is woodpecker distress. I hunt them strictly at night. I hun creek bottoms close to fields, but my favorite way is corn hunting them. I hunt the corn fields right after they cut them. Find a corn field that has a creek near it or that runs through it. My best spot is a corn field that is about 400 yards long. There is a wood piece about 50 yards wide that splits the field in too and has a creek running through that piece. This place is absolutley just loaded with coons. I only hunted them one night last year I killed two here, and I think my bro in law killed 11 from the same spot. When you find them they usually are in mass quantities. If you dont want to call them in your best bet is to by a coon squaller blow in about 3 times in a field and shine your lights into the tree line by a corn field and you will find quiet a few, but its more fun to call them in.

I just got a dvd off ebay on calling them. These guys call the late season when they are rutting and us ea coon distress call. They tore them up.

BTW, they called them in the daytime.
