Coon - In the tree vs on the ground?

Here in Iowa we can't use lights. That means that if I try to call coon at night that any coon in a tree is safe. I was thinkin of trying to call some in (again) but I see where a lot of use guys will get some of the coon to come right into the call while some of the other coon climb up a tree to check things out.

For you guys that call coon, What do you think the percentage of your called coon are on the ground (in shotgun range) vs shineing in the trees?

This is interesting, The only coons I have called in always climed a tree to check me out. Here we can't use lights to call coons but can use them to hunt coons as long as we have hounds. Go figure. I dont' however target coons and if I were to use a raccoon distress or kitten sound it may turn out different.

Almost all of the Coon that I have had respond to calling have shown themselves while in trees. Only had a few come walking to me and actualy had one charge us one time. He was mad too!! Wasn't expecting that one and gav us quite a rush!!

I have had more run up my pants legs than I care to remember on coon puppies type sounds.

the other sounds they seem to go to the trees.

I have used the puppies sound to get coon to come out to me in atic's to grab with my pole snare in my control work,(Some times I miss ! I hate when that happens, the sounds I make are not very manly) that is my last option when on my knees in a attic, I would rather have a pup coon making normal noise than that friggin sound of puppies getting killed!!!!! puppies chatter the sow will come and show her self but not charge most of the time I can do this sound with my mouth but pups getting hurt man she is ready to do some butt kickin. I have alot of teeth marks on my speaker to prove it and marks on my flashlite and skid marks on my undies to prove it to.
