I feel your pain!
One of the things that gets me are news reporters who seem to think that every firearm with a stock and long barrel is a rifle, or even more ignorant...an assault rifle. More than once I have heard of a "12 gauge double barreled rifle"!
Coming from a "Tech" background, I learned early on the importance of correct terminology. In most cases, using the wrong term is simply something that can be figured out but sometimes it can lead to severe consequences!
