I live in central portion of Saskatchewan, Canada and we have confirmed 3 sightings of a cougar and tracked him twice in the snow! this cougar is BIG! he is curently on about 24 square miles in parkland with lots of deer, elk, moose and cattle!! since the cat is on private property i do not know of its fate . even then we are trying to find methods of trapping the cat live and moving it to a protected area, any suggestions????

Vin 007,
Whereabouts are you from in Sask? These couger sightings are getting more and more common, but I hadn't heard of one for a little while. I don't think that live trapping cougers is very successful, this sort of thing is usually done with a pack of hounds and a tranquilizer gun. As you are probably aware, we are a long darn ways from anywhere with hounds. It would also be illegal for a common citizen to try.Also where would you relocate it if you could catch it? It would just go where-ever it wanted anyway. No, I think that you just have to count yourself amoung the fortunate few who have seen the prairie cat. I wish I was. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm a fellow Saskatchewanese and about 3 years I was working in a town called Viscount. During that fall there had been reported sightings of a cougar in that area as well as around Watrous and Manitou Lake. Also sightings reported along the North Saskatchewan River between Borden and Langham and Dalmeny last fall. Sorry to get off topic, but I seen two lynx (maybe bobcat) north of my hometown of Meadow Lake close to the Alberta border.

My trapping partner is the guy that the prov. calls in when they have cougar problems in Sask.
He has a map on his wall with pins in it for every time there is a confirmed sighting. You wouldn't believe how many pins are on it & from all over! The problem with trapping one in Sask. is by the time he gets called out it's been so many days since something's happened that lots of times the things taken off to wherever.He'll get one eventually, it's just a matter of time.

Man !!!you Sask. guys are funny. Nobody is gonna believe these stories. :rolleyes:

"Cougar spotted in central saskatchewan! " :eek:

I hate to break it to you guys, but if it was "spotted" it ain't a cougar, it's a leopard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Spotted= leopard
Striped= tiger
Black= panther
Tawny= cougar.

Now armed with this new knowledge, go have another look and report back to us. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Uh Redfrog;
Spotted = Cougar cub. At least we aren't claiming Sasquatch sightings, spotted or otherwise! Speaking of scarce and elusive, I wonder what happened to Vin007? You don't think.....Na. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
