From the Friday January 30th edition of The Southern Illinoisan Newspaper outdoors section.

Cougar Study - The Eastern Cougar Network has announced the establishment of a working relationship with a genetics laboratory at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

The ECN was founded in July 2002 to document credible evidence of cougars in the eastern half of North America. The organization's mission has expanded to conduct research on cougar distribution, potential migration corridors and suitable habitat in eastern North America.

The group focuses on hard evidence only and networks extensively with federal, state and provincial wildlife agencies.

Had a farmer the other day tell me that he has two calves missing and some of his neighbors found parts of their missing calves up in trees.

Sounds like a big cat situation to me.

we live in far western ky, I myself have seen a cougar 4 times over the last 3 years,I know a cougar when i see one, called our wildlife officer, and he says if it was a cougar, they are not native to this area, it had to be a released pet. but neighbors have had pets snatched and reported seeing two together, any info on western ky?

We're lousy with mountain lions hereabouts; they aren't known to haul a food cache into trees. African Leopard, maybe? Tornado? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There have been many credible sightings in both Vermont and NH. The Fish and Game Departments may tell us there are no cougars in these states, but too many people have seen them too many times for it to be false.

GBH, where did ya see that thing? Since thet are officially "not here", and therefore not protected, maybe me 'n Jimmie should go try to call up this "nonexistant" cougar...

Actually, I know a fella who says he shot one down near Paddy's Bluff, and I saw the hide myself, it was definitely a cougar. There was also a documented sighting in Rosiclaire, IL last year, and that's just across the river.

I was talking to guy i know that lives down in Fulton county. Last winter he was telling me that he heard a big cat cry a couple of days before. I told him it was more then likely a bob cat and he said I know a bob cat when I hear a bob cat and this was way to big to be even a large bob. Could it have been something larger??

Boy, oh, boy, bring em on. Yes, GBH I heard of cougar sightings in the LBL for several years. I just talked to my kinfolks in southeast Missouri and they said they had heard of cougar over there.I'm from Caldwell County in Western KY and spend a go bit of time in the outdoors and have never seen any sign yet. I'm hope that will sonn change. Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.

I go hunting in west central Iowa every year at the end of October. The taver we eat at had a news paper cliping on the wall with pictures and the whole deal. It was a mountain lion that had been hit by a car just south of Alantic.

I always thought that the DNR had bought them in because I have not heard about any in Nebraska, if they were coming from out west, but a eastern route makes since.

I saw some large tracks around here, round little smaller than my hand. Hard to say what they were, could that be a bobct?

About 3 years ago, we had a Mountain Lion killed by a land owner just right across the state line in GA. Thats about 30 minutes from my house and about 2 miles from where I hunt.

They had the pictures all over the news and papers and Fish and Game still said that these animals don't exist in TN or GA.

I know a breeder of Mountain Lions and Lynx and Bob's. And they are required to have thier claws removed before they can be sold, And you wouldn't want a large cat for a pet with it's claws still intact. And this cat that was killed still had claws on all 4 paws. Also we have several sightings per year. I myself have never seen one in TN. But I can't wait till the day it happens.

I know where I go camping in Southern MO there are a lot of sightings, and most by people that would know the difference. Even heard of someone sighting a large, black cat. Don't know how much I believe that, but nevertheless, I still sleep with my 12 Gauge not far away when I'm in the bush.

thanks for the link and the info.

I have put the address of this forum up on the bowsite to let others know about it.
