Was out calling about midnight, went through my calling sequence and didn't get any response. Ended up staying on stand for 50 min as it was my last set of the night. I walked out and picked up my caller and on the way back heard the "identify yourself" bark.

I've had this happen to me twice this year.

anything you can do after this happens?

was it the identify yourself bark?

or was it the you have been identified bark?
 
^^^ Busted. How far, no shot? Busted is pretty much all barks IME, a challenge will be short pissed sounding howls and barks. In that case he thinks he's talking to another coyote.

Curious if you're using lights, thermal, etc.
 
I was using thermal. Coyote was probably 500yds or so away. Across a road from me. He sounded a lot like the challenge bark/howl on my e-caller to be honest.
