counter sniper scope

i'm gonna give you the best advice anyone can... STAY AWAY,
simple as that... here is mike with a bit of review for ya.

Interesting feedback. Now he obviously noted the quality and marketing issues with this particular product unmounted, but would the product evaluation have been more complete with field testing?

Just asking as I don't own any long gun optics, so certainly no authority, but a more thorough evaluation would have seemed more objective.

If you cant feel or hear the scope click when you turn the turret what would be the point of mounting it. Obviosly it will never track.

Glad to see the Public Service Announcement is effectively serving it's purpose. The scope is best-known for it's marketing. Here's another great example. Nightforce has a famous scope shot in battle but was still functional after being shot:

Counter Sniper is looking for a similar achievement, but...

Thanks,

I bought of of those scopes a couple of years ago in the 5-25x model..As I liked the wide range of powers and it looked like it had some quality..Heavy and solidly built...

The reviewer made a point of not being able to hear/feel the clicks in turrets,,,It all depends on how "unlocked" you set the adjustment knobs...If they are totally released, there is no 'feeling/hearing' and you read the numbers on the dial for stealth...If you partially unlock them, then you can count by feel...Just a comment in fairness to the scope...

My initial problem with it was that the illumination portion was incorporated into the housing that holds the reticle adjustments and I couldn't find a mount for an AR that provided enough length between the rings to hold the scope...

I called the company in Springfield, MO and got a lot of lame excuses about how the military had no problem mounting them, but they couldn't advise me on a mounting system....I notice that the one in the video, now has the illumination housing near the ocular end...

Fortunately, the store where I bought it was very willing to take it back and I think it may still be in their display case...Unfortunately, since I never got to mount it, I can't comment on the actually quality of the glass, and it looked really like it had some quality...

It does look good but I can't tell anything just by looking. Thanks for the comments and opinions you have all expressed which is what I asked for.
I was bidding on a zeiss but in the last minutes it just got above my set amount to spend.I am afraid I will not be able to get what I want for the money I am willing to spend.I have some pretty good scopes but I wanted one really good scope to go on my 308.I have a lupy 4-18-vx ll on it now and it is a good scope but it is not a clear as I would like for it to be.Also I really like the looks and the idea of how the rapid-z 1000 ret works in the zeiss. What power do most people choose for say 400 yd to800 yd,1000 sometimes.Maybe I could get by on less power. A fixed power is cheaper sometimes, what fixed power would be enough, remember my eyes need help.

Your power selection has to be relative to the target size and distance, in most cases...

Military and Police snipers can usually hit a man sized target with a quality 10x scope at 1000 yards...I have no problem hitting a Prairie Dog at 400 yards with a 16x, most of the time...but that takes a lot of practice on my part...I've never had the opportunity to work at 1000 yards with a 'normal' rifle, so not much help there...

I do know that the mirage factor gets much worse, starting about 18x and I've had to dial back when that happens..and my eyesight is not what it used to be when I was younger either..

OT what do you think the next down glass wise to a ziess would be.I know that is subject to opinion but thats what I am asking for. Also I would like as many opinions to this as I can get to see what most people think.I cant tell much about a scopes glass inside a well lit store, they all seem to look good there.

Not knowing your price point, but I would have mine at $1,000 max, I'd have to seriously consider one of the Minox ZA-5 series in the 4-20x with the BDC reticle (it's much like the Leupold Varmint Hunter)...Great reviews, but at a much more affordable price than some of the others out there..

You're going to be hard pressed to find anything CLEARER than that Leupold for anyways near the cost. Clearer scopes....sure....much higher priced...you betchum!

I have found Bushnell 4200 Elite series to be brighter/clearer than the Leupolds that I own but mine are the VariX III LR's. The newer Leupold's may be as good as the Bushnell Elite but the Bushnell is more economical.

Yeah, the only ones I can think of right now in that price range are the Bushnell 4200, Zeiss Conquest, and Nikons.

I agree and might add Minox and Sightron to the list as well.

As I've gotten older I have found that to be true also. What I've discovered is that the fast focus eye piece on newer scopes has become my friend. My old Leupold and B&L scopes with the regular eye piece just weren't clear to me anymore no matter how I adjusted that eye piece. The exceptions were some straight 4 and 6 power Leupolds. Then I discovered the Nikon, Bushnell fast focus eye piece. Oh boy, you talk about clear.
Recently I was in the market for a new scope and looked at the Nikon Monarchs ( I have several of them), Bushnell 4200, Vortex ( I really liked those), Minox, and Zeiss Conquest. I liked them all with clarity being really good in all of them. But, weight was a factor for this project along with customer service. Those 2 factors always points to Leupold and what I discovered was that their new VX3 series (NOT the VXIII) has the fast focus eye piece and you can lock it into place. I bought it and I am really happy with it. Clarity is great and it is brighter than my Nikon Monarch of the same power, plus it doesn't weight more than my rifle does.
