couple boyds questions?

I'm getting ready to break down and get a Boyds classic, short action, heavy barrel, pepper laminate for my savage axis HB.

Has anyone had any issues with Boyds in the last few months?

what's the best way to order from them-internet or phone?

Is it possible to get another sling stud attached to the classic for a bipod?

Anyone have issues with the classic being to flimsy for a bipod and varmint shooting?

I tried a thumbhole and also the pro varmint and don't like them. just worried the classis isn't beefy enough for a bipod, heavy barrel and a little abuse shooting off the bipod. just looking for something that matches the original savage stock as im most comfortable with it.

I had a great experience with Boyds. Can't speak about the Classic as mine is a Prairie Hunter. Mine was for my Axis XP II with the standard sporter barrel. I would just call them, especially if you have special requests such as the extra sling stud......which I'm sure would not be a problem. It says on their website that you can customize them in many ways, which adds to the cost of course. I ordered the Prairie Hunter in Nutmeg and am very happy with it. Drop in fit....no extra inletting or modification needed. Really transformed my rifle and it appears to be very well made.

Laminate stocks are just about as tough as they get as far as strength. I have NEVER noticed any flex in the fore-ends even with heavy barrels. I have a Boyd's thumbhole on a Stevens heavy barrel and feel no flex what so ever.

I called when they first opened up in the morning and got right through. The lady was very helpful with my requests. I have a thumbhole on a sporter barrel and no twist at all.
Good luck with your purchase!
I am very happy with mine!

I have a 700 sporter in a Walnut Classic.
No flex what so ever and laminate's stronger so I wouldn't worry.
Only down side to laminate for a sporter weight rifle is the weight. It's heavy as he11.

I've had very good dealings with Boyds over the years but there have been some bad reports the last few years.
I think they went through a rough spot but the bitching and moaning seems to have died off as of late so hopefully they're past it.

When I ordered my last stock, Boyd's was going through some changes in the factory. Delivery times were way off even though they would tell you delivery would be a lot sooner than it really was going to be. I was told about 14 days and it turned out to be almost 3 months. But, the quality was as good as it ever was and I have no complaints about that at all. And....if I ever have a need for a laminate stock, Boyd's will get the first call. I think that the slow delivery time was due to the factory upgrades and still trying to keep up with orders. Stuff Happens!! Still good stocks!

that's a little what I'm afraid of. I read something somewhere they charged a guys card and left him with no answers for months.

They don't charge your card till the stock ships.

I just ordered one for a CZ 527 last week. Naturally I got the generic should have it in about 2 weeks, response but I'm expecting it to be more like 2 months, not 2 weeks.

My dad ordered one last spring and they told him the same thing but if I recall it was about 3 months before he actually got it.

I have a Boyds Pro Varmint on my Bmag but I bought it from DIP Inc. and it was an in stock item so I had it that day. That's the only Boyds stock I've ever owned and for the money they are pretty decent and I don't know of any stock in that price range that's better. The comb is so freakin low on a CZ 527 that you can't really get the scope low enough so for only $145 I was willing to take a chance with a Boyds on something other than a rimfire.

I ordered a pepper laminate for a heavy barreled axis, back in Jan. When I received the stock, the entire inlet was misaligned to one side, so I had to sent it back. I wasn't particularly happy with how they handled the turn around time of my replacement stock, but the new stock was much better.

Here is the timeline from order to receival of the replacement.

1/14/2017-Original Order
1/20/2017-Shipped
1/25/2017-Delivered
1/27/2017-Returned stock with RMA, because entire stock inlet was misaligned.
2/1/2017-Return received and signed for at Boyds.
2/9/2017-Inquired about my return, but was told my stock hadn't been received yet. When I showed delivery proof it had been received on 2/1/2017, I was told the the paperwork just hadn't been processed yet.
2/28/2017-Inquired again about my return, and was told that it was being evaluated, but that can take time. Was told once the evaluation was completed then they would decide what would be needed to take care of my return.
3/9/2017-I inquired once again about my return, and was told the new order was placed on 3/6/2017.
3/15/2017-Replacement finally shipped.
3/20/2017-Replacement received

Hoping for the best on the fit but to my surprise I received a tracking # Friday that shows a delivery date for this coming Thursday. I placed my order 04/13 so it was only a week to get it shipped, not bad. Now hopefully everything goes well with the fit and finish.

Stocks for some of the common brand, for better choice of words, like CZ, Remington and a few others are.e probably pretty good as far as inventory. I think the Ruger American and some of the Savages might take a while longer because they are the "Hot" items right now. Especially the RAP and RAR.Just guessing, don't know this to be true.
