coyote and other fur prices

I was planning to sell my coyotes and foxes this year. A fellow who is a fur buyer and trapper said he would buy them "in the round" which I believe means unskinned. I asked him what he would give and he stated depends on quality and market prices. Soooo, what are general prices I could expect for in the round?. How do you grade your pelts etc. Would I be better off skinning them? I called some furriers and they were very closed lip about what they are offering. Any help would be appreciated.

depends on where the coyotes came from. but if I could get 15 bucks from a real prime northern pale in the round I'd take it.

Rocky Mtn. Fur in Caldwell told me $25 for a big coyote with prime pelt. That is skinned, fleshed, stretched and dried. A lot of work for $25.

Isn't there some where on the net that one can go and find current prices for the different parts of the country? Or don't they do that?

jaeger19,

If you go back to your profile and give us a location you live in, these questions would be a little easier to answer.

All depends on where you live as to the value of a coyotes fur.

Check out this link, it may answer your question:

Remember though, everyone thinks they're going to get the "top" price. Shoot for average for your area and that's what is more realistic. Also, these are stretched and dried hides. In the round will be considerably lower.

thanks guys. I guess the get rich quick scheme is out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I live in Parma idaho and the Rocky mountain fur company in caldwell is close. When I called in december they wouldn't accept coyotes.

Well, take the dang things in and find out! He can't tell you without seeing the fur and we can't see it niether!

Here's how my fur sold in the round last weekend. These are all snared animals in full prime and great shape... they often won't even buy coyotes that I've called in and shot because of minimal fur damage and the already low value of the pelt.

OTC Prineville Sale-Jan 22-23 the average coyote price was $17.82. Filer sale Jan-15 the average coyote price $18.66. There was 739 coyotes offered on the Filer sale and 1048 offered on the OTC sale. The world is awash with coyotes and the buyers are buying at their price only.

Been selling alot of yotes "in the round" here in SD---been getting $10-15 for good ones. Now that mating is starting the prices will go down. For stretched and dried goods put up properly look for tops of $30. This year isn't a great yote year for fur!

Jaeger & Dave,

Rocky Mtn. started buying after the first of the year but I don't think they will take unskinned animals. The way my luck has been lately I don't think it would matter anyways

Around where i live you are better to snare or live trap them and sell them to local fox pens who are now running yote's instead. here prices are between 25 and 100 dollars for alive ones.
it just depends on witch pen you talk too.

Been getting $15.00 for whole coyotes all season long. I would really like a bobcat, they would pay for a lot of gas. I just sold 5 coyotes on Fri(28th) & he said some are rubbing pretty good now. so I might be done calling after tommorow. gonna try my hand at trapping & snaring next year. did a little this year & it was fun. still gonna call though.
