Coyote: Biology, Behavior and Management by Marc Bekoff

It is the single best source for scientific review information on coyotes. But it would be well down on my list if I were just buying a few books on coyotes and coyote hunting. What other books do you have now?

Thank you for the reply Nahuatl. I have the following.

'Successful Predator Hunting' by Micheal Schoby. I personally think this book is extremely well done with good quality photographs.

'Predator Calling' by Gerry Blair. I also enjoyed this book and to say that Mr Blair was a character would be a gross understatement. Very funny and entertaining as well as a lot of helpful information.

'Coyote' by Meinzer. Mostly a pictoral book with what I would grade as the best professional Coyote photographs I have ever seen compiled in one book.

I asked about Marc Bekoff's book as I would like to get some more indepth information about Coyote behavior.

Would welcome any recommendations!

I sent you a pm with the secret bibliography. Almost all of them can be had used for under $10. I bought many for $2 - $4.

I've got the Bekoff book, and a whole bunch more, plus many thesis and published studies. These are some of my favorites:

COYOTES: Predators & Survivors, by Cadieux

The Clever Coyote, by Young

Life of Coyotes & Its Survival in the Wild, by Pederson

Wild Furbearer Management and Conservation in North America, by Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources

If you look around and are patient, you might save a few bucks on the Bekoff book. Its a deep read and some of the info is on the Phd level.

I personally liked "The Clever Coyote" by Young better than Bekoff's book. The two books by Pederson are enjoyable to read and give plenty of insight on coyote behavior. I guarantee you won't be able to put down the Pederson books until your done.

I'm kind of a book junkie and I say add all of them you can to your collection.

Hey Lonny,

I've only got the one Pederson book I mentioned and I agree, it was a totally enjoyable read. Sounds like there is another one I didn't even know about? Gonna have to see if I can dig myself up a copy!

Thanks for the tip!

Some of you guys might have heard of the Gov. trapper, JR (Ray) Alcorn. If memory serves me correctly, Major Boddiker (the CritR-Call guy) had an article about Alcorn some years back in the VHA magazine.

Alcorn, according to Boddiker, is one of the founding fathers of predator calling. The article in VHA had some really interesting reports done by Alcorn in the 1940's when he was a Gov. trapper, along with some old-time photos of coyotes killed by calling.

Anyway, I thought the article in VHA was really interesting and I always wanted to know more about JR Alcorn and his experiences with calling coyotes. There is now a book out on his life as a Gov. trapper and the title is "Coyote Man, My Life with Coyotes." Its $40 plus shipping through the CritR-Call website. I just ordered a copy and hopefully it will be a good addition to the bookshelf.

Thank you everyone for the great recommendations!

I have been unable to find any experienced Coyote hunters locally to show me the ropes, so I rely heavily on books, the internet, and video's to educate myself about this fantastic sport.

I also am grateful that a Coyote novice, like myself, can ask a question, and get answers from some of the best and most experienced Coyote hunters in the business.

Again, thank you for all of your assistance!

I could not find the Pederson book(s) on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. And more info you or anyone can pass on about that? Thanks in advance.
