I found this clip on utube today. Man, does this bring back memories. I do miss this...back when gas was $1.05/gallon. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've got a couple catches like this on 8mm if I can ever find the darn tapes.

Figured you guys enjoy watching a good catch on film.

Tony

That does bring back memories. Good video. That coyote looks like he might of run a few miles before the dogs were dumped. Didn't take em long to catch him.

TT thats was great!! I had 3 turn outs about like that this weekend and got spanked on all 3 of them!! The coyote was further off the road when i sent them but was a good turn out and all 3 were over a mile race!!
Good talking to you this weekend!! I told my buddy about your call and he sent Arppe home with me!! TT Arpee can catch and handle a yote by him self!! Big stout all white hairy stag!!
Call me back this coming weekend and see if i am back from canada!!

Vargy

Sorry but chasing down the coyote in a truck then dumping the dogs?? Not my idea of sporting, I guess. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Wow Vargy...that's totally cool of your buddy. Good catch dogs are hard to find, let alone one that'll handle a coyote by itself. I only had 2 out of 11 that could do that.

I'll call you on Friday/Saturday. Have fun in Canada.

To me it is not about the sport I say control the predator any way you can. Great clip wish we could do this in Oregon great stuff rp

Well, Then it's about exterminating the species?? I don't think it is about "controling the population" in the video. That wasn't some sheep rancher that lost his herd.
That was just disrespectful to the resource. It comes across as the "ruthless killers who are too lazy so they run them down with their trucks then let their dogs kill the coyote" that anti's love to paint us all as.

If it happened in MN, that guy would be ticketed and I suppose could have lost his truck. If the CO saw it.

I'd call it in if I saw it. It reeks of a future anti-hunting campaign.

I not a big fan. KH

You can do it in OR. Coyotes are one of the few things we can run,and we can do it year round on public,or private ground. As for MN, I lived there for over ten years,I say you would have a tough time getting a guy ticketed for running a coyote with dogs.Be them sight hounds,or trailing dogs. It's legal to run coyotes with dogs in MN.Good luck with whatever hunting you enjoy, but let others do as they enjoy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

KillerHiller,

In Texas, you can drive around in a truck and shoot out of a vehicle. In Montana you can run over a coyote with a snowmobile. In Alaska you can kill over 1000 caribou in some districts (at least when I lived there). You won't get much traction calling the CO if it's a legal means of harvest.

If hunting hounds is legal where the video was taken, all the power to them. Your idea of right and wrong is perfectly fine, but don't come into the hound forum and start bashing hound hunters.

This topic always comes up and the folks who frequent this forum are very good at explaining why they like hunting with dogs. You are more than welcome to your opinion but don't disrespect those who enjoy a legal sport by lumping them all into a single category and calling them names. That's the standard ploy of the liberals who want to take all means of hunting from us.

Until outlawed, hound hunters will continue with their sport and most of us will support their efforts to do so, as we would whatever means of hunting you enjoy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

It is not legal to run the coyote with the truck and then release the hounds in MN. It does not matter if it is on private property either. Bottom of page 25 in the MN hunting regulations. In MN, you cannot pursue a wild animal unprotected or not with a motorized vehicle. A CO in MN is really bored during the winter with ice fishing regs. I am sure they would love to change it up. Especially while enforcing the law. That is what I commented on.

I did not bash anyone here. That wasn't a PM member who made the video, was it? There was no personal attacks or name calling. If running a coyote down with a snowmobile is hunting to you, That is real sad.

There is no pride in how fast someone caught up to the coyote in a truck. The enjoyment of the hunt should be from the hardwork your dogs put in or you yourself busting your hump. That is something to be proud of.

We used to hunt coons with walkers when I was in high school so it is not like I have no experience with the hounds and I would jump at the chance to go again. Sorry if I offended you, but last time I checked members aren't limited to what the can and cannot comment on.
As far as helping Liberals, I doubt they would need any help with this.

KH,

IF I were hunting with an AR15 in Canada, I would be arrested. I think you're missing the point, which is: Each state and providence has it's own rules and regulations concerning taking of wildlife. IF hunting coyotes with hounds is illegal in MN I would turn them in too. But, where legal a coyote hunter using hounds has just as much a right to pursue game as you or I.

You may not agree with the means, so be it. You said the coyote hunters on the video were Quote:
"ruthless killers who are too lazy so they run them down with their trucks then let their dogs kill the coyote"

. How do you know the video wasn't one of the many hound hunters we have on this site? Read a few posts, you'll quickly find several coyote hunters who hunt with hounds and stags. They post plenty of pictures and stories and I encourage them to do so. Not everyone agrees with the technique. This is a free country and you have a right to your own opinion. Don't come into a hound hunting forum telling us we're a bunch of lazy killers and expect to be welcomed with open arms.

Sorry if I offended you,

None taken.

As a moderator, I have learned what tends to get a flaming war going. This topic can get carried away very quickly. Keep the comments civil and you can discuss the topic to your hearts desire.

I stated my opinion of running an animal to exhaustion across a field with a motorized vehicle, then releasing the hounds. I didn't call you or any PM member lazy killers. Quote:

That comment is what any average anti is going to come up. Please note the original post, it is not me calling any pm member or group that. I flamed no one.

I made a comment and replied with a civil response. I NEVER said anything to the point of using hounds was illegal, immoral or unsporting. I support all forms of hunting as long as it is actually hunting. Running an animal down with a truck is not hunting.

I have a lot of questions for the houndsman here, but i fear I won't get a response because someone might think I am fishing for a fight or just write me off as an anti.
