Coyote Colors

The color variations yotes come in is neat stuff. Here’s two Eastern’s from last year with substantial differences in color. The yellow male could hardly be seen against the snow/reed mix, but during the green season it would be a ‘bummer of a birthmark’ problem and tough to hide.

Many posts ago, someone showed an all black coyote with just a white tip on the tail. The problem is, anything other than the typical gray coyote, doesn’t really look like a coyote.

The new issue of Breakthrough taxidermy magazine shows the winning entries from the recent World Championships of Taxidermy. The freeze-dried mammal entry was a coyote pup with markings identical to the hide on the right. The taxidermist is from PA and I figured it was a local dog. Nice pic.

Lance, that would be great to see. I'm yet to see a quality freeze-dried animal as they always look distorted when finished, so an award winner must be well taxed. Locally I can't locate that publication, so if you have a way to scan & email or post it here, that would be appreciated. >ken@superfetch.com

My father swears last year he saw a white(albino)coyote. He was running his hounds when the yote came trotting out of some brush not ten yards away.He said there was no color in it at all. That would make quite the trophy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have taken a couple yellowish ones, saw another guy with two red ones. One was so red I could not tell it wasn't a fox from 15-20yards. Not counting the size difference. I tried to get this red one two days in a row, she was the lucky one then. The third day seven miles away she was sleeping near where I had some coyote sets. I shot her at about 300 yds. Her luck finally ran out. T.20

kendog, Here's the best scan copy I could muster. It's from the Summer '03 issue of Breakthrough magazine and is the category winner from the 2003 World Show.
