Just yet another curious question from across the big pond. We use a system here or I do and it works well for me, my success is far better. I match a cycle to kill more.
A jackal from Jan to say mid April is a social time, you hear him chatting at night, plenty ones at different ranges away a sort of chatty time. Then April May to say June late is a jackals breeding time, ( best time to hunt a jackal is May).August Setember and October the female is preggy and even September in many areas have little ones already under ground in dens. October usually is a den time with puppies ( still small). Late October to November they are underground and late Nov to Dec are with adults outside the dens. Some areas they are out of dens in late Oct and Nov already.
So matching him Jan to Apr with social sounds, May to July even to Aug with challenge sounds, Sept to Nov with food and puppy sounds is good, and Dec puppy sounds is great, this way you kill more than just a food call all year as many hunters here do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
A lot of guys use mouth calls all the time, but to get better results matching his cycle does kill more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
