coyote decoy

How can a guy make a homemade coyote decoy? I have taken a coyote and skinned it out and I was wondering what I can do to make a coyote decoy out of it? I was thinking of making a wire frame and then sliding the hide over the top of it and make the decoy sitting down. I don't want to spend alot of money. So then I was thinking about spraying that expanding foam inside of it. Do you think it will work?

I did take my blue heeler with me one day and the coyote did key in on it, and I was able to get the nice male, but my dog didn't like the dead coyote in the back of the truck, so everytime I stopped the truck she jumped out. She really didn't seem to mind the coyote on the ground but in the truck was a different story. Is there an easy way to get her used to the dead ones?

Ive got an old mounted coyote. Real old and beat up but looks real from any distance away. I haven't had much luck with it here in the east but I'll bet it would work well out west.

Borrow the lighted motion deer from the neighbors yard, Be sure to get the one with the head that moves. Cut off the horns, remove the lights and hook it up to a battery, Strech the hide over it a bam motion yote decoy.

I"m going to bed to much eggnog talking!!!!LOL

Buy one of those Renzo decoys, they work awesome.. Didn't think too much of them until last week my buddy set it up and I had a pack of 5 dogs come in up woind of it. My friend said they come in upwind of it all the time so it (decoy) can smell the other dogs. The pack somewhat surrounded the decoy and one big dog came in looking like a porcupine (hair all standing up) to scare it away.. What a sight..

You have the hide.

That's the hard part sometimes.

Now all you need is a form. I have a USDA cast off (broken neck) but if I did not have it, I would start with a shot piece of PVC pipe (say 4" sewer, not the heavy black stuff, use the white or green, 3034 or equivalent).

Figure out legs. Wooden dowels or small PVC pipe.

The head and neck will come to you.

The tail? Stiff wire.

It may not be a work of art but what the hay!! ........ you will be practicing for your next one!!!!

gonzaga--I think I posted this information here about two years ago, but here are some photos for you to look at. You may get the idea from the photos below. I used 3/4" plastic PVC pipe for the frame of this coyote hide holder. Use a 4-way fitting for where the legs, backbone, and pipe to where the 90º elbow is to get one piece of PVC down to hold the nose out straight. You need short extensions to get from the 4-way fitting to form shoulders and then 90º elbows to fasten the pieces that form the legs. I just used a straight piece of PVC for the backbone on to where the tail is. No back legs were used. He just appears in the sitting position.
