pretty cool. it is still fun to find them even after you've run across several. saw a den last spring that had quite a few bones scattered around. more bones than i've seen at any other one littered about. found a fox den with rabbit fur and chunks in a ten foot circle.
very cool, tnpnt1!

Cool pics. Any idea of measurements, "height & width" on the den mouth opening?

I'd have to say it was about 18 or 20 inches around, tried to use my shotgun for scale.

tnpnt1, if the den was located in a remote area and the adults were not habituated to human presence, they would move the pups quickly after you left. Usually they prepare several dens before whelping and will move the pups to one of them. They have been reported to move the pups as much as two miles away after human intrusion. Usually it is much less. When the pups are a little older and spend much of their time at play outside the den they can quickly trash the area. They accumulate "toys", bones, sticks, trash and little treasures that the parents apparently bring to the den. Last year I found one den that, besides the normal collection of bones and trash, had two nerf footballs that had been badly abused by the pups. Another den located within 1/4 mile of a golfcourse had two stashes of golf balls in "nests" under a mesquite next to the den. There were close to 50 balls in each nest. Most had little teeth marks on them.
Next time you return to the area let us know if you find the new den.

I was going to say about the same thing that Rich said. I hear they will usually move them atleast a 1/4 mile. I wonder if they are still there.T.20

I do know several dens are in the area, but this is the one I've ben seeing them using so far.
Last year I actually saw the female moving the pups a few hours after I found a den in the same area.

I took a pic of a [cleaned out] coyote "den" pic? uh?...er...[hole...LOL!], I took awhile back. Coyotes moved about 100yrds & dug or cleaned out a new one.

My old Bud Larry, yesterday found a Red Fox den [in the roadway ditch, Huh? [jeeze, imagine that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif],with 4 kits. He sat on the road last pm & watched them play. They paid little attention to him.

Gonna see about some pics, later this pm.

Can't tell a hole from a den-2dogs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
