Coyote/Dog Fertility

If a coyote and a dog mate will their pups be fertile when they become adults? If I remember my high school biology correctly, offspring of two different species (if they can bear young at all) won't be fertile. I also read somewhere that "Coydog" pups would have little chance of survival because domestic dogs don't participate in feeding and raising the young. Can anyone set me straight on this? Thanks. Just answered my own question by doing a search for " coydog ". The pups will be fertile. That leads me to another question. How would one prove something is a hybrid?
DNA test or blood test or something? I've seen photos of many different color coyotes on this forum. You can't be sure just by the looks of it can you? PC

I heard pups will be fertile but they usually will not be successful in raising a litter. Coyotes breed in late winter and raise pups in spring/summer. Coyote/dog hybrids breed in late summer and have pups in fall or winter which will not survive. The males do not help with pup raising either. I don't think coydogs are very common. Can't remember where I heard all this.
