coyote hunting in N.C.

Wanna start trying to kill some coyotes and need to know what calls work best for this time of year. The terrain around here is either cutover @ 10 years old or dense woodlots and a few ag fields 15 to 20 ac. in size. I hear them howling sometimes and have seen a few deer hunting (the reason want to hunt them harassing deer) but havn't actually been coyote hunting.Any tips or success for this area? Thanks

Hello carolina, where are you ?I'm in the gaston/lincoln county area.Tha dogs are around, but very call shy.Haven't taken any this year from calling, but the calls that have gotten the best response are howls, and the locator, then a rabbit distress. Some have came to the fox pup distress too.Have not tried the woodpecker call yet. It's kind of hard in this area so I usually hunt the mountains, lotsa dogs up there. Good luck with it.

do you guys have any open country or is it mostly brushy with a lot of under grouth? i'm from new mexico and it's mostly long range shooting here.
Would love to come to your area and look the country over, Good luck,,,,,,Joe

Usually we call fron November till February, stopping then so they can mate and raise their young, plus you want the best coat on them which is the winter fur.Try a good locator call to see if you get any response.I know there are many acres up where you are of crop fields an woods with old cut-overs and creek bottoms.Try these places for response.I know you boys don't ride those old roads(lol)and look for deer, but this works in the early daylight hours for spotting coyotes too.A good way of finding out where to call.Good luck....
