Coyote in the barn!!

I was over to my farm mowing the lawn, as I came back up the yard towards the barn I seen a coyote come right out of the hay loft! It was carring what I thought was a rabbit or maybe a barn cat, I jumped in my truck and ran home and grabbed the 22-250 ! When I got back the coyote had went up the seasonal use highway ,maybe 300 yards. Just standing in the hay field about 50 yards off the road..I drove up and got out of the truck and shot it..when I did,The coyote dropped what it had in it's mouth. I walked over to it and much to my surprise it wasn't a cat or a rabbit..It was a very young coyote pup! Here in NY they have their young in early spring,as late as May but I never seen any this late and NEVER in MY Barn before! . Can't find anymore in the barn..Strange or what???

WOW, that is a strange one. So was the pup dead or alive? If dead, was it fresh or did it look like it might of been dead awhile? If alive what the heck did ya do with it?

The pup was very alive but to small to even run! I killed it (with a stick). only good coyote is a dead one! I really thought it had one of the barn cats..

Yeah I agree AL, very late in the year to have a pup that young. You think no way it was a pup of some breed besides coyote possibly? dc

No doubt, it was all coyote. I just finished putting hay in the barn about 3 weeks ago and I know she didn't have anything in there at that time..We completely cleaned the barn out of the old hay before we put this years in.

There was a coydog that looked like it was a grayhound mix shot recently. I'm not saying that yours was a coydog but at that age it could be hard to tell. That sounds like a bold dog. She might have been looking for a new den. Did you look around for the old den site? There is probably a few more pups in it.

Beautiful.

Can you imagine having the shot where you could first hit the pup and then the bullet exit into the Yote. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
