coyote locator- siren sound or group howl?

I have had no luck using the preymaster locator which is a group howl sound. Has anyone used varmintal's siren sound to locate coyote's. Which type do you think is better?

Thanks,
Al

I've had extreamly good results using the JS locator played through the Preymaster. If they are in the area they will *usually* sound off. Normally it will start a howling chain reaction among any coyotes around and I'll hear several different singles or groups. I'm doing this before daylight. I have never tried the siren.

I have to agree with doggin on the JS locator, but I just started using the siren locators for road dogs that get a lot of pressure. If you have a high pressure area or it's near the road the siren would be worth a try.

I can answer that question as I have used both. I have a mp3 player and the Radio Shack Amp and Speaker that can play the Predator Al's siren sounds.

I have used these two siren sounds in the past to get coyotes to howl.

This year I got the PM4 from Johnny Stewart Specialty Hunter and use the Coyote Locater and got three different groups of yotes to howl back at me at night.

I have been scouting the same area which is a 2500 acre State Fish and Wildlife Area in Southern IN.

Now last year I use the siren in early April and got the yotes to howl back at me at night. This season I can't get them to howl back at the siren sounds for some reason.

Maybe they see me in the truck and figured out what I am doing.

I have noticed that after the first time I get them to howl back that they won't howl back later on. I get them to howl one time only and then they go quiet.

I don't want them to come to the sounds only howl back at me. I don't want them to get scared.

But at various times I have got both the siren and the locater to work.

The one thing that's not working so for is the lone coyote/coy dog how. I have been playing that with no results. The local coyotes don't vocalize when they hear this long howl sound. Perhaps they don't feel threated by a single lone coyote.

The JS coyote locater sounds like a pack of coyotes and I think that the local coyotes howl back at this time of the year to show where their territory starts. They are saying hey here we area and you stay away. LOL

Note: in early April I went out and tried to get the coyotes to howl using both the siren and the PM4 howls and the yotes remained silent. They probably didn't want to give away the den location that early in the year. The coyote pups were probably sill in the den at that time of the year. Now the pup are older and they can get around so it's safe to howl and show their territory.

I've only used the siren sound at night and it worked on this one group about three times (spaced about 3/4 wks.) apart and the last time they went silent, guess they figured it out. I think to locate coyotes on new land it would be ok if others don't use it.

I have both a siren and coyotes howlin on my FX5, I have noticed that I do get a response sometimes from the siren, I get more with the coyotes howlin.

I use the siren when I have a stand that nothing came in, but I see lots of coyote sign in the area.

I'll run the siren a couple of times, then listen to pinpoint the location, then move my next stand to that area.
I've called multiple coyotes using that technique. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

If I feel like I need to stir things up a bit on a slow day, I'll use the "Coyote Locator" howls to get them up & paying attention, then start my stand.
You'd be surprised how much better "alert" coyotes come into the stand, vs when you are calling & they are slow, or layed up sleeping already. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
