Coyote near Las Vegas

I'll be out in Vegas in a couple of weeks for a convention. I'm not much for gambling, so I figure there must be some areas near by to hunt. Does anybody know what public lands are near by. And what the laws are for bringing a rifle into Las Vegas? I'm currently trying to find my way around the NDOW wed site for info. There is a continuous open season on coyote, and no need for a licence, resident or non resident. If anybody calls out there, any gear recomendations? Camo, calls? Any info would be appriciated.

Your nuts for calling this time of year. Temps yesterday were between 106- 110+ depending on what area you were in and can be as high as 118 at any given day.
Areas near by (with in an hours drive) would be Pahrump, Sany Valley, Searchlight, and around Indian Springs. Lots of public lands just don't shoot in incorperated Clark County. Bring your A game as these coyotes will not come easy. Gun laws are laxed. No round in the chamber. No loaded (round in chamber) weapons in or on a vehicle. No shooting from a vehicle or from or across a road. Calls and camo don't matter, what ever works for ya. A stool comes in handy as the brush is thick and the ground is sometimes rather flat. Good luck and drink lots of water and gatorade.

Definatly nuts, but I just have no interest in a city like Vegas. What are the temps like at night? I figure since I'm there, might as well see whats around. Do you know anything about the Overton WMA?

Overton WMA is shotun only any you must use Nontoxic shot i believe. Temps at night are bearable (hi 70's to low 80's).
Coyotes any where near Las Vegas are not easily called but it can be done. Water is extremely scarce (drier than a popcorn fart). While you can light from a vehicle, you can not shoot from it or the road.

Nevada definitly has a different system, WMA's are the state owned public land in VA. I got this map, http://www.nv.blm.gov/nvwilderness/images/wldns_status-10-03_11x17.jpg and it shows all the land you mentioned. What land types are public? I'll be making some phone calls monday, just to find out about the all the rules, hotel and airport policy. But In Va, there is allot less open space. So the areas you can hunt are more restrictive. I have a friend who's from west Texas. He says out there, as long as you're out of city, and it's not posted private, it's fair game. Is it like that in Nevada?

Pretty much.

Your best time for hunting will probably be early mornings before the temps climb, and the last hour of day light. Night hunting is legal but like i said, no shooting from the vehicle or roads. Depending on day and time, I might could show you around and do some stands. Just don't have high expectations.
If your interested, maybe some night fishing on the Colorado river if Yotestomper can get his boat up and running by then.
Shoot me a PM if your interested in any of these ideas and we'll see what we can get going.

alright already, im working on the boat this week and will have it ready for this weekend. lol, so if you come out guns101 we'll take you out and at least show you some vegas hospitality.

guns101,
Was courious about the same thing. Was in vegas in jan 07 and took a roadtrip all the way to cali. Seen the rams/sheep by the hoover dam.Got me a thinking about doing some yote hunting in the desert. Couldn't figure out how to get my gun there(staying at the casino)and wished I would have brought my calls. Will probably be going to Laughlin,Nev next year. I'll be taking my calls and a camera if nothing else. Speaking of..... I leaving tomorrow for reno/tahoe. Yea I'm taking my calls and camera iff'n I can sneak them past my wife. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

Nope. I know a local here with a camo bronco but no chevy PU. I have some spots I love to hunt some what close by in AZ buy with the cost of lisence at $150 and gas what it is , I have opted to stay in Nevada and Utah. Although I hope to go to Southern AZ to hunt Cotimundi with CGMartin so I may get a lisence reguardless.
I try to offer to take people out that are coming into town. all I ask is that you enjoy yourself, have no expectations of grandure as far as call in's , and help pay for gas. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

BTW, stopped in Bullhead city for gas and seen this old timer that had rearanged the letters on the front of his pickup. "DORF" instead of "FORD" . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif About split a gut laughing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
