I get the impression that some have missed the point of bearmanric's initial post. Some of this may be due to the fact that many are not aware of "the other site". There is another predator hunting site on the web where one will be chastised and berated and in some cases, tar'd and feathered, if they refer to our favorite canine as anything other than a Coyote or if they shoot one with anything other than a .17 calibre centerfire cartridge. I wholeheartedly agree with their philosophy that the Coyote deserves the respect of any game animal as they are a very worthy and intelligent quarry. I do believe however that it is a little ridiculous for anyone to issue a verbal tongue lashing or to label another hunter for their choice of terminology or choice of calibre. The terminology issue is simply a matter of semantics. Living in the west I have no problem if you refer to a Mule Deer as a Mulie or a Pronghorn as an Antelope or goat. Why should I care if you prefer to call a Coyote a Coyotee, dog, yote, songdog or brush wolf? They are all the same animal. Isn't calling a Mountain Lion a Cougar or vise versa the same thing? For me or anyone else to make an assumption about anyones ability, experience or upbringing based on their terminology choices would be nothing short of ignorant and chances are, you would be wrong. Considering the current attack on our hunting rights and our right to bear arms, I think it is a huge mistake for us as fellow hunters and sportsman (not meant gender specific) to argue, fight and belittle each other over issues so trivial.
