Coyote pup in distress call?

I am in the market for a good "Coyote Pup in Distress Call". I had the one from Primos called "Ki Yi" and although when it works it works well, it keeps breaking and is now non-operational. (Reeds keep breaking, no sounds sometimes when there is a reed!)

If someone is making such a call and has one for sale, I'll buy it. I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Almost any open reed with a steep drop at the tip that uses all of the tone board will make the high pitched sounds you are looking for.

When you see a tone board on a call where the air channel does not go out close to the end of the tone board, or one that has a very moderate arc, it will make that call harder to get those sounds out of if at all.

Most commercial calls have a definded pitch break in them at this or some other point. On most custom calls the call makers make their calls without that pithc break which gives a much smoother sound, and a smoother transition from note to note on the call.

That was my plug for a custom call.

If you want a cheap commercial call that will do it, the CritRCall Standard will work but it has an awful pitch break at the end of the tone board, at least the 4 or 5 I have do.

Rustydog,

I can set you up. PM me your phonenumber and I'll let you listen to some, one night this week.

Thanks...Tony

Tony, you have to stop being so shy about your calls. Get out there and ADVETISE them man LOL

Nice of you to help him out Tony.

Tony's calls will work great for your application Rustydog. And you wont find a better one on the boards.

Well, maybe one by that guy THO, but Tony's are OK too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hahaha. Too funny. You, Rich, and I basically all replied at the same time.

I agree with THO, most open reeds with an agressive arc at the tip will do the trick. Truth is, I think the Ki-Yi is the easiest of all sounds to make and the easiest to build a call for.

I'd love to hear Primo's Ki-Yi call, to hear what the pitch is. (I've never owned a Primo's call) Most coyote pup in distress sounds that I've heard (hand call and electronic) are way too deeper pitched for my liking, this time of year. I try to focus on the higher pitched sounds of a a young little puppy, more so than a adultish sounding one.

Well, if it wasn't for Rich, I wouldn't have anything to say about open reeds at all, so if I had known the old master was lurking about, I would have just been quiet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bubba at Primos sent me a KiYi to try out. Worked OK as an open reed. Just too small for my liking. I gave it away to someone on the board over the winter.

I agree with those high pitched puppy sounds. If anyone wants to hear them, the Johnny Stewart tapes have one of Canine puppies that is just excellent.
