Coyote Scat

What does coyote scat look like? In an area I have been hunting lately I have seen a lot of scat. I know there are foxes in the area and I have heard reports of yotes in the area but I am wondering if what I was seeing was from a fox or a yote. I don't think it was from a dog. There appears to be hair in it.

Most of the yoteepoopee I've seen is 3-5" long and is usually curled in a J shape or a horseshoe shape. lotsa hair too.

Brandon, Renton must be close to the coast. Here in Ok. it has more of a crude oil type flavor /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

weell all I know and I aint claiming to be anymore than a poor dumb coyote hunter from tieton washington is the coyote scat in eastern washington taste alot like crap /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here is some atypical coyote scat. No one seemed to be able to identify the exact contents when I posted these photos in January of 2003. This material may be the feet of some small bird? I apologize for not having something in the photo that would allow you to see the relative size of the dung.

Out here in NV the yotes eat allot of animals that are full of "brush berries", perhaps they even eat them (the berries)themselves...at any rate when they have them in their scat it makes for a solid, stringy mass with a crumbly look to it. You Western guys know what I mean...looks like Toyon berries in some areas, some kind of seeds in others.

It looks to be a turkey foot. I see that often on our place. [/qb]
Turkey or Chicken... has to be one of the two!!!

either way.... I bet it still tasted like chicken! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So, in other words, keep an eye out for a yote, with a tube of Preparation-H, or a serious bow-legged walk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Here is a pic I took last year of some Scat I found whlie hunting here in West Texas.
The poop on the left is Turkey and that on the right is coyote. These were located on a two track leading up to a gate.

purdygood -- I like that side-by-side photo of the owl poop and the coyote poop loaded with Cedar berries. When the wild plums get ripe around Western North DaColder, I find a lot of coyote poop full of those plum pits!!! I need to take my camera with me more often. M-M-M-M--yummy coyote poop with plum pits. Sounds like one of those exotic desserts at a dessert bar /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Silverfox,
I think I'll just stick to ordering cherry cheesecake for desert. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
