Coyote teeth removal?

I'd like to save the K9 teeth from the coyotes I kill.

Has anyone removed the K9 teeth from a coyote?
If so, how difficult are they to remove?

Thank you, Bowhunter57

Just leave them lay for 2-6 weeks and when you come back they will pop right out, if they haven't fallen out already. That is the simplest solution. I don't know of an easy way when they are fresh.

Thanks! I've done that with groundhogs and it works well.

Maybe look up how to pull elk ivory’s? I’ve never been able to come back to where I killed a coyote and get the skull, always gets drug off.

I have a dead pile I check now and then for loose teeth. It takes a LOT longer than a few weeks here...more like a year. Course they're froze for 6 months in MN...

Crock pot method. Suggest using loppers to detach the lower jaw and upper palate with the canines. Place the pieces in a crock pot full of water for a day or 2. Hot water around 160*F is best. Do not boil. The connective tissue will break down and the canines will detach very easily. The temperature of the teeth need to heat and cool slowly in the crock pot or the canines will crack.

I don't recall doing it with coyote teeth, but for removing elk teeth I've used a short piece of wood dowel and a hammer. Place the end of the dowel up against the tooth and give it a whack with the hammer. Knocks 'em right out.

Probably would break a coyotes canine tooth but this is the same thing I do on elk ivory, except I just use a piece of wood and a rock, one whack, works perfect EVERY time (no room for a dowel and hammer in my pack)!

Making a necklace. I've made one from groundhog teeth and it came out good.

I purchased the beads, bead wire and clasp at a bead shop. These are the lower teeth, as the upper teeth have a stronger curve to them. The ring is my wedding band, as I can't wear rings, so I attached it with sinew.

Sorry, guys, Photobucket is wanting money for an upgrade to share my own photos...NOT going to happen. If I could just copy and paste from my own computer, I'd be in good shape. I don't have a link with the photo to add.
