coyote urine

I know you can't fool a coyotes nose but ... after killing a coyote would it not be a good idea to get the bladder and use it to help cover up human scent for future use when calling ? or would it spook a coyote when they smell it..Archery hunters around my area do that with elk .

I've never much cared for the idea of pee on me, other folks like it some, I guess it's one of those aquired taste kind of things ?

Didn't you just answer your own question with the first line?

Jeff Thomason told me a story today, it seems that a few years ago there was a test run at the SuperBowl where there was 80,000+ people in attendance. A man went and hid in an undisclosed location somewhere in the crowd. A police dog was given an article of clothing that belonged to the man that was hiding, and the dog found him..........picked him out of over 80,000 people.

That coyote is just gonna laugh and say to his buddies "Ya'll smell that? Bill peed on that dude over there". Can't fool'em, super human I tell ya.

I agree with Chupa. Superpowers they have I tell ya. Play your wind right and never worry about a thing though. Unless of course your wind changes directions on you, that messes things up sometimes.

they say a white tail deer can smell 6 diffrent scents at once and reconize all of them. i have read a coyotes nose is 4 times more sencitive than a white tail deer. maybe if you where using 20 diffrent urines you might fool him for a fraction of a sec.

Ok... A pee dipped one half ounce (1/2 oz.) cotton ball would cover the scent of a 180+ pound man and all his assorted gear? Good luck...

The strength and location of human smell plays a big role in how a coyote will react to it. If you can reduce the human smell on your boots enough so that the coyote urine smell is strong enough to convince them that another coyote has crossed the track since the human has been there you may fool them long enough to confuse them and give you more time for a shot.

I saw something last summer while squirrel hunting that I would not have believed if I had not seen it myself. The day before I was out digging Ginseng and around noon it started to get hot. I was wearing a long sleeve camo T shirt over a short sleeve T so I took off the long sleeve T shirt and laid it down in my ATV trail, intending on picking it up when I came back by to come to the house. Well, I forgot all about the shirt.

The next morning I was back in the same spot squirrel hunting. I came to a creek and heard a squirrel cutting on a walnut. I was trying to get a shot at the squirrel and as I came up over the creek bank I spotted something on the hillside about 30 yards ahead of me. It was a coyote standing there sniffing on something. He had found my T shirt that I left there the day before. He walked around it sniffing then started scratching dirt over it and finally hiked up his leg and pizzed all over it.

He turned to go on down the trail and I shot him. I figured the shirt wasn't worth trying to clean up so I threw it away after that.

NOW, I was pretty sweaty the day before when I took that shirt off so I know it had to smell A LOT like human scent even the next day. Somehow that coyote knew that I was not there where the shirt was.

I have had them follow deer scent right to my tree stand and I have also seen them just about turn wrong side out trying to get away after they have smelled my track from where I walked hours before.

I used to use coyote urine when making trap sets for them and I can tell you, you have to be really careful with it or you will have all of your gear smelling like coyote pee.

As a trapper...I'd say there is no better cover scent than pure quill skunk musk. When its straight from the sacks...it is so strong it almost smells like perfume..if you can imagine that.
Put some on a cotton ball and pack it into a film canister. Open the top and place it down wind at each stand.
Can buy this from any trapping dealer. Get the pure uncut stuff...not the essence
