Well today was our first outing for coyotes this year now that deer season is over for us. Went to a new ranch this morning and set up at first light on a high spot over looking a draw that ran downhill to our left, and through it another 200 yds of open pasture. Well cut loose on the howler and got three responses, one in front one to the left and one back behind us towards where the truck was parked. Called for a little while and decided to do a more dominant howl. Well when I did I saw a coyote about 200 yds in front. It looked like it cowed down and ran across the opening that I could see. A little more dying rabbit and it come back across the opening left to right about 100 yds out. It then came to the bottom of the draw. Wouldnt you know there is a tree in the way for both me and little timmy, tried to manuever for the shot. It boogered and took off, missed a running shot.
We moved about 3/4 mile away on the same ranch alot better view. A pasture about 600x600 yds. Set up about a 100 yds into it in tall grass calling facing the other 500 open yards. Howl no repsonse. Some dying rabbit on and off for about ten minutes. Nothing in front or to the side of us. Still waiting. Then the radar goes on and I slowly turn my head to see three charging in from about 8 o'clock moving into our scent trail. Now or never turn for the shot they spook. Bark three times and the last one stops for another look about 80 yds directly behind us. Pulled up and let one loose from the Ruger 77mkII 223, shooting Win Varmint Pack loads. Hit her a little far back for my liking but still in the lungs. She takes off and I am fumbling trying to load another round, ALL THUMBS, so I say get her Timmy. She is running straight away from us and he squeezes of a super shot about 80 yds out and she tumbles. Tried to call the other two back with no luck. Well at least we scored on the years first hunt. Timmy thought we should have had at least one more but at least we got one. Here is a pic of us and the young female. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Congratulations on bagging the coyote! Timmy sounds like me--woulda, coulda, shoulda done this or that. I can always figure out what I should have done after it's all said and done. Hopefully these are learning situations and we do better the next time out.

 Awesome job guys.

Are those sanitary gloves that Little Timmy is wearing or is he not from around here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif lol.

Possibly left behind in Roswell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes they are he was about to do some forensics work on the coyote. His conclusion was that 45gr hollow point @ 3600fps in the boiler of a coyote will cause massive hemoraging and death.
