Coyotes and Coon Hounds

I was out last night running my bud's Walker and English with him and we crossed paths with some coyotes.
Them coyotes werent too happy and one bold one followed the female English back to us like a decoy dog to within 50yards.
Seems everywhere we go out, them coyotes dont like to hear the coon dogs and let us know it, which I dont mind, because I remember them spots to call at but it's getting to be a pain in the butt.
Any other coon hunters run into this ?

We get this almost every time we go out I every once in a while we get a strange bark from one of the young dogs when he/she gets bumped by a yote the older ones dont get as spooked by them we havent had a fight yet usualy they will keep their distance but it is an erie feeling when your at a tree and you know their watching you. I had a friend tell me one time they were skinning in the woods and tossed the carcas and after they walked 30 yds the yotes started fighting over the fresh meat. They are much bolder in the dark

We've had one beagle attacked and another one stalked by coyote over the years. Back when we ran foxhounds several times we had a coyote turn to fight the hounds.

I've hunted at night running my hounds, I guess when they know they are the ones being chased they get a move on. I've never had a coyote stand up to one of my hounds that I've known of in the dark. At least they don't come running back to the truck. But I don't hardly ever have just 1-2 hounds out, at least 3, and normally at least 2 of those can either make a coyote run, or make him hurt. I'd like to run some of them coyote that aren't afraid of the hounds, makes for a good race, if not I get one on the tailgate. Either way I'm happy. I've educated the coyote around here where I hunt that when they hear the hounds open they better get to movin. See ya, MOyotehunter

We run in to it every year as well. We had coyotes all over the field we were standing in last fall, followed the dogs back raisen a ton of "h".

I call these places at times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have had times when Coyotes come try and mess with dogs at the tree. A single dog is more apt to be at risk. Several coyotes can and will work over a lone dog.

Its not as common where i've hunted but I usually go with my neighbor and he has two good walker dogs and a heck of a bluedog and with the average yotes around here it would be suicide. I've used my little redtick for a decoy before and this year i'm gonna hunt my akc Choc. lab with the hounds, she loves to run with them and if she actually wanted to fight and hopefully she might she could tear a coon or yote a new one.
