Coyotes and woodchucks

I had a landowner / farmer tell me that he likes the coyotes because they kill the woodchucks. Since coyotes are on the move at night and woodchucks to my knowledge are not, just how much do you think coyotes affect the woodchuck population?

Coyotes will still hunt during the day. Do they kill a lot of woodchucks? Probably not. Sidenote, I have seen a woodchuck out with my thermal in the middle of the night.

Back in the day we were overrun with groundhogs. My summers were spent shooting them, with the excitement of trying various varmint rifles and loads and looking forward to the next summer. THEN the coyote moved in. We still had huntable populations for a while, but then numbers plummeted. I haven’t been groundhog hunting now for several years.

There wont be many ghogs where there are a lot of coyotes. 6mm06 and others know what they are talking about. I used to shoot 200-400 ghogs a year until we got coyotes in the area, not anymore.

When I was a kid there used to be g hogs, and it was really rare to hear of someone calling and killing a coyote with any consistency. Now, its the opposite. Tons of guys killing coyotes, and there are very few groundhogs. Our fox, have also been on the decline... I would love to target fox, and would still if there were a bunch. When i first started calling in High School, we would see fox often while calling for them. We had no idea what we were doing, and still had enough success to keep us interested. Now, its hard to find fox to call

So we see so few fox around here they get a pass plus the kids like them. We are getting a huge influx of armadillos. They say they carry a virus that will kill the remaining g hogs.
