Coyotes in the Yuma, AZ area?

I have a good friend who "Winters" in Yuma, AZ. He hunts big game here in Oregon, but could "care less" about Coyotes. However, he has offered me a place to stay if I want to come down and hunt "dogs" out of Yuma. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Question? Woithout giving away any of your secret "honey holes", can anyone give me at least a direction or road to travel if I want to take Paul up on his offer? All I am asking is an idea of which way to travel to find some public hunting area. I will be renting a 4 x 4 so rough roads are not a problem.

I guess I'm a coyote "junkie" so I would really appreciate some help. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks,

Been a while since I lived there ('95), but there were a fair number. There's some cattle pens out east of town on 95 before it heads north. There's also plenty of farm land around there as well. Probably check out by the Dole packaging plant--also off 95--for dogs that pick up on the rodents picking up the scraps and waste. It's hard to miss, just look for the place that's all lit up at night and stinks of rotten produce. After 95 turns north there will be a road heading off to the west that will take you around the hills that lie to the east of Yuma. If you get to Walt and Sally's Pit Stop you went to far. Check out along that road. There's quite a bit of farming along there.

Also, head out towards YPG. Take a left at the intersection with the static displays and follow that down a ways. You'll pass two right hand turns, that turn on to different parts of the built up area of YPG. The second turn is is next to a brigde on your left. The turn-off to will take you down a dirt road that parallels the colorado. If you miss the turn-off you'll be in California. There are a number of improvised RV campgrounds around there (and some pretty good 'hot date' spots /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) along there that probably have trash scavenger dogs. You can take this dirt road all the way back to town. It'll pop out somewhere on 95 east of town. *Hint* It's a real good road to use when you really tied-one-on at Johnny's Other Place, and want to get back to base without that pesky Triple-A-With-Badge service ruining your evening.

There's plenty of water nearby with all the irrigation for the farming, not to mention the Colorado River there. Also, there is a lot of 'cat friendly' terrain.

If you work south of town just be mindful of how far south you work yourself. You'll probably grab the attention of the border patrol who will likely be curious in what you are doing.

Hmmm, this has sorta piqued my interest in Yuma again. Maybe when I get back I'll have the time to get down there and run into some old friends (they're probably *still* in front of the drive-thru Liquor store on 4th)

DEFINITELY Coyotes in Yuma. I hunt there a few times a year and have had some pretty darn exciting hunts there. The area surrounding Yuma is a very large agricultural area, and where there are farms, crops and mice, there are coyotes and bobcats. You should have a great time, and plenty to shoot at while your there.
