Early Saturday morning I just had to get out and hunt, but I couldn't find anyone that wanted to deer hunt so I went coyote hunting. I would have liked to have taken one of my daughters along deer hunting but they were both involved int volley ball and Pep band Saturday morning. With that said I was happy to call in this coyote at first light. It was a really cool morning, light snow, some fog, and frost, with mild wind. My favorite type of calling weather.
My youngest daughter and I have been trying to get things to fall together for her first buck since Oct 25th when the Youth Hunt opened in Montana. She has had several chances, some of them at very nice bucks. For one reason or another it just didn't come together though. Anyone that has hunted with children (especially first young hunters) knows how challenging it can be. Sometimes it takes multiple opportunities until all the stars align and a tag gets punched. Such was the case with my daughter. To her credit she has stuck it out through freezing temperatures, wind, freezing rain, and snow. Finally, Saturday evening things all came together. This pretty buck hesitated just long enough for her to put a 140gr bullet in his chest. It was a perfect, quick, "one shot" kill. Even though this may not be some world class buck, it will be world class good on the dinner table. I'm very proud of my little girl for hanging in there, enduring the weather, and showing great patience while waiting for the perfect shot.
You got'a love the hat. Girl's what can ya do?!
Have to post one more photo of "Team Ursus21". I'm pretty sure the smiles on both of our faces tells the whole story.
