Coyotes not responding to any vocals or distress sounds

I’ve been hunting at night with my thermal for the last 2 weeks and have had zero coyotes respond or even seem interested in any sound I play. The week before was great they would respond and come running in. It seems like they just shut off. What do I do??

Are you hitting the exact same spots as last week? If so the coyotes are likely getting wise to your methods and sounds. Give the area a rest and when you do come back try to approach and hunt the area from a new angle.

Just as deer will react negatively to you going to and from/sitting in your stand(if they see, hear, smell you) so will coyote. Also I see this frequently, when using an ecaller coyote may still approach to exactly where the unit was located long after you are gone. They will smell your scent and often avoid the area for awhile, or at minimum be very cautious traveling nearby.

I've tested this theory with cameras and yes they will come to check out where your caller was and smell you. I often squirt urine and liquid bait at my callers as to make encounters with my scent positive.

The best luck I have with coyotes is baiting I use an ice auger to drill holes in the ground then stick road kill in the holes and freez them in with water and ads a little Traping sents it usualy takes 2 weeks to a months befor thay hit the bait once thay hit the baits I add mor holes with road kill and let them get comfortable once I get them coming in regularly I kill them with a 22 mag at 100yards rather than centerfier for less sound once i drop the firs one i almost every time get a second one within a half hr or so then move to my next bait spot I am constantly out drilling holes in new areas so I’m not educateing the coyotes I also use bird in distress if thers no activity after sitting for a half hr or so hope this helps the stinkier the bait the better the odds good luck

Seems to me that once they are educated, they don’t forget. After I hunt a spot for a couple years, my success declines to just about zero. I can’t get one to break the woods line when night hunting in what used to be my best spots. They howl but do not come out. I tried changing where I called from but that hasn’t worked. I tried all different kinds of calls on my foxpro and that hasn’t worked either.

There is no substitute for virgin ears when calling in my opinion. I Gotta find some new spots I guess.

This is true for a lot of my old honey holes too. Seems like the new generations have been imprinted not to respond. Those places still hold coyotes but most of what we kill there are already out in the field and we snipe them.

Started out killing them with the rabbit. When that stopped working, I used pup and female distress and got a couple more. When that stopped working I used howls and coyote fight vocals . Now they don’t work.

I understand that calling has its droughts but I definitely am killing less. I have much more knowledge and experience than I did when I first started, not to mention how much better my equipment is and I’m still killing less. Definitely have better results when I get on a new piece of property.
