Crimped primer question

I have about 150 rds of .223rem brass that the primers are crimped in. I can get them out with my sizing die but I cant seat the a new one. So I'm looking for some thing to cut out the crimp and I'm not sure what I'm looking for?
What do you guys use?

Do you guys know what the head stamp for Lake City brass looks like?

Why do some Mfr.s put that "Red or Blue Stuff" around their crimped primers?

Thank you

GJ

Using this or a similar tool.

Tool

The "stuff" is a primer sealant. It make the cases more weather tight.

The Lake City brass says 'LC' with a year.

you really have to ream or chaff or bevel whatever you want to call it certain brass to makr it receptive to new primers, the brass i have encountered w/ this prob. is black hills, pmc, federal, hsm, some remington loads.

The way I see it I should be able to use my Lee's deburin' tool? I tried it but maybe I need to take more off.

I thought it might me but I thought it was sealant but it was smeared around really good so I thought I would ask.

So you guys are telling me that I have around 200 rds of 2009 Lake City?

Thank you

That's the same set I use. Quick and easy. I found trying to do it by hand with a reamer a pain.

I cheap and quick way to do it is to get a countersink bit
from the hardware store. Put it in the cordless drill and let them fly.

I use one of those cheap $2 pocket knives you buy at the flea market, and just cut the crimp out. Quicker and easier than the lee chamfer tool

+2. I use a Sinclair Primer Pocket Uniformer. Use it once and you are good to go and only have to use an RCBS (or similar) primer pocket brush from then on. Sinclair makes a "uniformer" for large and small primer pockets and they are a bit on the pricing side ($23.50), but last forever. You can see them online at sinclairintl.com[/u. Click on "Reloading Equipment", "Case Preparation" and "Primer Pocket Tools." Remember to select the size you want which for .223 is "small".

The cutting/reaming methods all remove brass from the primer pocket area. The RCBS tool actually swages the brass back in place and maintains the thicknesses all around. It's the only tool I use for getting the primer pockets back in shape.
