crit'r call magnum questions

Hey Everyone, I just got a crit'r call magnum in the mail a couple days ago, and I hav a few questions about it. First of all I was wondering abut the reeds, will any work for any call or are certain ones better for certain calls? The reason I ask is cause Ive been trying to call with the standard white reed that comes assembled. So far I havent gotten anything to come in and I know there out there and listening. I guess if any of you have experince with this call Id appreciate any advice on using it, Ive been practicing, read the instructions half a dozen times, and have tried calling at a good 10 stands and nothing, and I know their there. Oh and I guess I better give more details, Im trying to call yotes with either a cottontail or jackrabbit distress. as far as I can tell Im at least semi sounding like a bistressed rabbit, but I dont know if I am too the yotes, lol. Anyways thanks for any input.

Dirkyd,
Major Boddicker's "crit'r call" line of calls are good ones. I like the Magnum for howling, but I think the "standard" would be a better for blowing most of the distress crys.

Well, the reason I got the magnum is cause my area is a wide open area and we get high high winds frequently. But thanks for the responses.

We have the same situation here. When it gets windy, I make sure I have the Crit'r Call Magnum along. Like Rich said, the Standard is probably better when the wind dies down.

Yeah, the problem I have is at the moment all I have is a Johnny stewart attractor which works good, but is really quiet, and my Magnum, which Im wondering if it is just too loud. Ive been experimenting by twisting a sock loosely into the end and it muffles it quite a bit, but even with that I havent had any success yet, but Ive only tried it a couple times. Well Im sure with trial and error Ill start getting more yotes coming in./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Oh sometimes when I call I breath in through the call and I was wondering if that might cause problems, Ive been working at controlling my diapraghm better so I can get 8 or more bursts out without having to breathe in. I guess thats probably all need is more practice before Ill start seeing them come in, lol. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I think the biggest mistake alot of us callers make is to much volume.Even in the wind.I have had good success on windy days with the standard critr'call,i think the magnum for the most part is to loud as a Prey call.I like it as an Adult coyote howler though. On calm days you won't go wrong with the peewee call, and when it's windy go to the standard call.A coyotes hearing is amazing,on a calm day I have lip squeeked coyotes in from 500 yards away, where my brother sitting just 20 yards away can barely hear me.LOL Good Hunting Chad
