Bad, lots of houses near by so I'm going to buy and use a crossbow. The only problem is, I know nothing about crossbows and the prices range from $399.00 - $ 2,000.00.

I need the following features:

Reliable 50 yds or less human kills
Low maintenance
Good trigger
Decent optics
Lightweight as possible

Any help, tips, tricks, etc is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I recently bought my girlfriend A Barnett C5 crossbow for my girlfriend and was blown away by the accuracy and performance for the price. If I was buying one for myself I would go with Excalibur though.

Excalibur is definitely the way to go. They are bulletproof and virtually maintenance free. I've been shooting an Equinox the last four seasons.

txcoondog,
Go to store who sells Ten Point crossbows and look at the Wicked Ridge xbow made by Ten Point. Ten Point isw top of the line and the Wicked Redge is a less expensive model made by 10 Pt. It is a compound xbow if thats what you want. I'm pretty sure the Excaliber is not compound just regualer limbs. Not knocking them, I understand they are pretty good also but I love my Wicked Ridge. They come with a nice scope with 3 crosshairs in them top one is 20 yds second one is 30 yds and the bottom one is 40 yds. Mine is dead on at each. I'm sure I could shoot a 50 yd target but I'd have to check it out with the 40 yd hair first to see how much I'd have to hold high.
I really donh't want to shoot past 40 anyway. Last year I got a nice 8 pt at 34 yd. ranged. Dbl lunged him. I use NAP Spitfire broadheads on my compound bow and my cross bow.
Check them out...they also have great safety features.

+1 on the Tenpoint. I bought a Tenpoint Turbo XLTII this year with the acu-draw. It's awesome. Excellent trigger, fairly lightweight, short axle to axle, excellent speed, very nice optics. I'm a Mathews nut and will only shoot Mathews vertical bows, and I wouldn't give a plug nickel for their new mission crossbow. But I would buy another Tenpoint or Wicked Ridge in a heartbeat without thinking twice.
