Crows don't fly in the rain.

Went out last weekend for the first time of the season, rainy and wet conditions. The first set was a disaster, the usual problems: atv with two hunters drive through the middle of private property, set up climb to my blind, mojo had dead batteries, back again, power dogg had dead batteries, back again and power dogg shorts out! For the secound time after just getting a new one from waranty. FML.

Stand two, we get out of the rig and my buddy says: "I am just going to leave the crow call here because crows don't fly in the rain." Of coarse we set up I squeal out on a high pitched call and the first thing we hear is a crow in the distance. They eventually fly in circle our decoy and land in a tree. When they came a little closer one busted me and the circled away sqwaking.

How do crows effect your calling? What is your experience? do they bust you or call in preds and scavengers to open the dead carcas so they can eat? Do they fly in the rain?

Having crows in your area tells you the call is working great and it lets the coyote know its safe to enter (he feels more comfortable about entering your area). Never really paid any attention to the crows as long as they were in the area, unless they see a coyote approaching and they will give the coyote "away" so the crows are nice to have around you.

+1 I have always heard that coyotes will sometimes follow crows too. Something about a crow having the better vantage point and being able to tell if somethings out of place. If the crows bug out so will the coyote. Not sure if there is any truth to it or not just something I have always heard. I definately dont think they are hurting anything though. Good hunting, Josh

I've seen crows fly in the rain, and never heard they wouldn't. Do they avoid flying in the rain? Maybe, but i doubt it. Wild animals wouldn't survive if they were that picky about weather.
