Crushing 22 hornet brass

I just picked up a new set of RCBS dies to start reloading for the hornet I picked up recently. I tried reloading some Winchesters that I shot but they keep crushing. I know they have thin brass and the Winchester isnt the best, any suggestions ?

Thanks, Stan

At what stage are you crushing it? Sizing or seating?

Usually seating, do not seat the die all the way down.. Instead, go up a turn or two. Use the top screw to seat.

You may also want to make sure you measure your brass, make sure it is not to long...

More info could help too....

Sorry guys, it is in the sizing process on once fired brass I dont even get the brass halfway into the die and it starts crushing. I took the sizing and decapping pin out just to see what would happen and it didnt crush but it was extremely hard to run through and man does it really squeeze them down. I am chamffering the mouth and using one shot lube.

thanks Stan

I only neck size my brass to. I have never lost a case to sizing and I only use win brass. I also think that with the Hornet that its best to only neck size. that is what gave me my best results in the two rugers I have owned.

Almost sounds to me like they cut that one wrong? Either not deep enough or for a different caliber. I would take it back where you bought it, or send it back to RCBS. Something ain't right with it.

As far as the brass goes, I use lots of winchester and have never had that problem.
Did you anneal that brass first? Just asking.

Sometimes just polishing the inside of the dies for a few seconds is all it takes. I polished a few with a piece of cloth and some jb bore paste. I turned it for about 10-15 seconds and then cleaned out the paste, reassembled the die. Much smoother and cases dont tend to bind up.

I think I would also have to agree that there is something wrong with the die, I use the RCBS set and have never crushed a case during the re-size, and only one in the seating. I think you got a bum set of dies there

Ditto here.
I've never lost a Hornet case in all of the years I've loaded for it, and I use Win brass.
