Cuddeback vs. Moultrie Trail Cam?

Does anyone have an opinion on which camera is the best buy for the money? The Moultrie with infrared flash is way cheaper than the Cuddeback Infrared, but would I be making a mistake by purchasing the Moultrie over the Cuddeback. (Occasional use, not a hobby!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

RD,

Don't have a recommendation for you RD, just an observation. I usually stop in at Cabela's several times a month in Boise and usually check out the Bargain Cave. There seems to always be a pile of Moultries (10 to 20) on the shelf as returns but have only seen one or two Cuddebacks. I can't say for sure if the Moultries are the same units seen each time or not but it makes me wonder about their quality as compared to the Cuddebacks. Just my observation, I have no personal experience with either unit.

I can tell you that the CuddeBacks are a superior unit, and you will definitely pay for that superiority.

If you don't mind missing a lot of shots due to a slow wake up/trigger time, and you just want to mess around very casually, then save your money and go Moultrie.

But if you need some hard intel, and don't want to miss any critters in your target zone, spend the $$$.

i purchased a moultrie I40 infrared sa a trial in july. i liked so much i bought a second one in august. the response time on both are less than a second. i did have a problem with the second one purchased. about 50% of the pictures were white. moultrie tech told me to update the software. the software update fixed the problem.

i have both of them plus an older moultrie flash and a stealthcam film out 24/7. they are out in all weather conditions with no problems.

i did have to purchase a flash card to update the second one i bought. i am getting ready to get my third moultrie i40. i believe the 3 of them will have cost me the same as one cuddeback.

I've got two Moultries and 4 cudde's. The cudde's are great and take great pictures. They're fast and catch game in an instant. I have one Cudde no-flash and am not impressed with it's night time pictures. THey use a 1.3 mp camera for the infared shots and it's grainy.

I am going to get rid of the no-flash and buy another Expert. The Expert has a 3.0 mp camera and a 60 foot flash, as compared to the 40 foot flash and 2.1 camera on the Excite camera.

I've I've currtly got two experts, one excite and one no-flash.

The moultries take great pics, but are slow on the trigger. If you put it on a food plot or feeder, they will do okay. If you put them on a trail, you probley won't be happy.

Good luck. It's an addicting sport and every camera check is like Christmas....

Bushnell has sued Cuddeback for false advertising about the speed of a Cuddeback. In an independent test the Bushnell was actually faster and it is a lot less expensive. I have been very impressed with my Bushnell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here is my 1 cents worth.(I cannot give 2 cents because my budget does not allow me to use a cuddeback /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)Here are 2 photos the first of a homely looking sow with a moultrie 1.3 digital at night, and the second is the moultrie 4.0 digital .The first is a little grainy but I'm not looking for award winning photo quality so these work for me. The reacton speed to these cameras are slow so if I have it on a trail I point it up or down the trail to give it more time to pick up the animal. But on bait it doesn't matter that much they hang around a while.

Would love to try a Cuddeback /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I bought a Moultrie and i used it for about a month. The pictures I got of the deer were good pictures I'll give it that. The problem I have with the camera is that I would have anywhere from 50 to 100 pictures on the camera after a two week period. When I got the card home and loaded it on the computer there would be only 4 or 5 pictures of the deer. Some of them would just be the butt of the deer...that's a lot of help!

I got tired of the camera so I finally broke down and got the Cuddeback Expert. I absolutely love this camera! I am not waisting $3 a gallon gas to get pictures of grass or deer butts so I figured that made it worth it. This camera actually triggered fast enough to catch a woodpecker flying past it.

Hands down get the Cuddeback or you will end up like me and have one crappy camera and one great one.

Here is one example of what you can expect to see with the Moultrie
