I was wondering what the most popular cur dog you gentleman (and ladies) have. I was looking at them and there sure are alot of different breeds. I guess if I was looking I would like a medium sized one, maybe up to
30-35 lbs, used for coon, bobcat, fox, coyote, critters along that size, no bear or cougar I dont have the electronics for that stuff. I sure hear alot about them, it would be used with my Jagd. sorry if I sound stupid, just curious.

Mountain Curs and Kemmer Curs are pretty much the same. My understanding is that Kemmers are Mt Curs but a specific line with their own registry. Most Mountain/Kemmer Curs are 40-50 lbs for females, 45-60 lbs for males. Most are either yellow or brindle. Most are tight/silent on track and hunt within 200-300 yards of you.

Then you have treeing curs. The most popular of these seems to be the Stevens Cur. Most seem to be smaller than the Mountain Curs and colors very greatly. I have never seen one in the woods.

My understanding is the Leopard curs/hounds are more hound sized and hunt more like a hound. They are suppose to be dang fine dogs for the guys who like the way hounds "used to" hunt and handle.

I had great luck with my first Mt. Cur and not so great with a 2nd. The guy I gave the 2nd one to said it did a bang up job on squirrel though.

Mountain/Kemmer Curs handle great and if I get another dog it will be anotrher Mountain or a Leopard. You won 't be disappointed with either.

I have a Kemmer cur crossed with a Blue Lacy. He's about 40-45#'s and a great all-around dog. Not perfect, but a jack of all trades. He gets out about 300 yards unless trailing something. He's quiet on track but will open up when he gets a look at the fur. He runs to catch on the ground but will hold them in the tree. He's got a really loud chop at the tree. He runs cats and coon, decoys, dens, and pretty much anything I can get across to him. I've had a few other curs and they all really wanted to please me. I had a black mouth cur that I loved but he got killed by a couple coyotes, I also have had a few other Kemmer stock curs and they all have earned their keep in my kennels.

I plan on running the Jagds with him as soon as they get some more training under their belts. They currently run him into the ground and then attack. They play very rough.

I'm currently hoping someone will have a litter from some Striker bred curs. I've heard good thing about that line.

I have a 2 year old Black mouthed Ladner Cur. Hes still learning. Very difficult dog to work with but he is fearless.
