I kept reading about these scopes so I decided to return a Gen 1 scope and order one for a tryout. I am waiting for a mini video recorder so I can do some testing and share it online.

I have to say though that I took it out for a quick try and I really like it so far.... Especially the day/night capability. The scope feels solid and is not as bulky as it appears in pictures. Image is clear and bright but will know more when I get a chance to set up for some testing at night.

Will follow up with some pics and videos when I get them done. I plan to do video tests out to 150 yards.

Took the scope out after dark and tested the Luna IR unit. It works great with the scope. I used the x/y axis and adjusted the beam to fit perfectly in the scope field of view. It really increases the viewable range.

Based on the results I saw tonight I would highly recommend the Luna Emitter.

That's a nice looking setup! WE will all look forward to seeing how your small camcorder works out.

I had my N550 out on Sunday night. It was dark and I could see out at least 200 yards if not more. I do wish I had more magnification because when I was walking to my first stand, I cautiously shone one of my XLR-250's to see if there were any yotes around. I could see nothing. Then I turned on the N550 and at maybe 175 yards there was a dog or yote, hard to tell (the XLR-250 did not show up the dog/yote). I stood still and kept watching it. I just could not be sure so I did not fire. After a bit it took off and I think it was a yote. With the 4.5x magnification I just couldn't get a clear view across the lake.

As this product contains a lens designed for use on Gen 2+ Night Vision we CANNOT export the Dr Bob Kit outside the UK.

I never read the article as I was not interested in purchasing one. I think the Luna Illuminator helps a lot with regard to the distance you can use the scope without any mods. I did read somewhere that guys were getting the adaptor and using a Sony lens.

Also saw this video of a guy that machined his own and posted all the measurements on youtube.

Have not forgotten about this post. I ordered a mini camera fom eBay and it took forever to get here. Now that I have it I tried it out and it does not record high resolution. It also records in AVI format and I had to get conversion software to convert that to Mpeg4. I made a test video and the results were not representative of what is seen through the scope, however I still plan to post some results after I figure out IMovie 11 on my new Mac.
Once I get this sorted out I will try to post what I have regardless of the video quality.

I will add that I like the scope and plan to keep it. I was hoping for 150 yard capability. With the Luna emitter 200 yards is a no brainer and I could see a flag on a golf green at 400 yards. I made some units to test reflectivity with various emitting devices and hope that it will be of some use in the videos with regard to how well the scope picks up eye reflection at various distances.

I was just invited to some property recently and the owner said they have game camera pics of bobcats and black bears but no yotes or hogs. Maybe I can get out there and see if I can get something good on a vid in Jan.

I'm very busy at work for the next 3 weeks but will try to follow up ASAP for anyone curious about the N 550.
 
This is my first attempt at a video. I bought a cheap camera so the video quality does not reflect what you actually can see through the scope.

The reflectors are set left to right at 100-150-200 yards. Above the lower 200 yard reflector is a wedge shaped reflection. The wedge shaped reflection is at 345 yards.

At the very end of the video a set of eyes appear at the bottom of the tree line. This was just a regular house cat that made an appearance at 360 yards. Unable to see in the video but I could make out the dark outline of his body when he turned to walk away.

I was using the Luna emitter and sky condition was thick overcast. Some light pollution from surrounding houses but completely dark to the naked eye.

thats pretty impressive!! I have a Gen 2 NV scope and a Gen 3 PVS-14. Night vision rules!!

I ran out late this afternoon to try to get a quick video on the Digisight scope. I threw my caller in my cart and headed to a construction sight close by where a new road is being cut through the woods.

I set up under the large crane on my knees and had the Digisight mounted on a tripod. I forgot my NV binoculars to scan with so I had to scan with the scope. I set my Foxpro up 100 yards out and started calling just after dark. I also set up my decoy but did not check and the batteries were dead so it was just sitting static with no movement.

You will see a couple of foxes that came to my caller. They knew I was there but did not seem overly concerned and their attention was split between me and the caller sound. The scope was not tight against my eye because it was a little shaky on the tripod and I'm sure there was some light leakage onto my face. There was also a slight glow from the Luna emitter when it is on a high power setting. You can see in the video I was changing the output of the Luna emitter and it shows how much better the unit performs with a good add on emitter. In a hunting situation I would have been scanning with my Gen 1 NV binoculars and then turn the scope on to shoot.

I did not have my range finder with me but I stepped off 100 yards to my ecaller when I set up.. The foxes first appeared about 40 yards past that. There was an opening in the fence at that end but for some reason they came toward me. The wind seemed dead calm but maybe that was a downwind position for them to check out the caller. As they came down the fence line they ended up stopping about 60 yards away. Hard to judge distance at night and it was pitch black.

I also noticed in the video that I had turned off the Sumlight mode in the scope. That mode is for low light and I had turned it off at dusk when checking the scope. Forgot to turn it back on. I think the view would have been brighter with it on.

I was playing a distressed rabbit call. I have another video taken after this one..... I switched to a fox pup call and one of them busted back out and ran all the way past me behind the fence. I also spotted a yote at the fence on the opposite side of the road as I was leaving.....hit him with my flashlight. I usually always get both into my call in this area but the fence has screwed it up.

I have lost most of my night hunting property but might have some open up soon. If so I hopefully can get the real deal on video.
 
Just for the record I have no vested interest in Pulsar or any other manufacturer. I was just tying to find a NV scope that would be sufficient for hunting critters. Given the fact that it is for critters I also did not want to spend any more than I had to as I am sure there are other products out there much better than the Digisight but cost is a factor.

I started with a Gen 1 NV scope that I just did not feel was suited for me. One issue I had was the fact that I have a red/green color vision deficiency.
I used it long with a pair of Luna NV binoculars and it was very frustrating that the binoculars performed so much better than the scope. I questioned this and was told it was because of the thicker lens needed for the scope cut the performance of the Gen 1 tube. The scope was also very sensitive to focus adjustments.

I even had the scope for sale on PM for awhile but no takers. I talked to Sportsmansguide and they swapped me for the Digisight since I had bought from them. I decided on the Digisight for 2 reasons.
1. It was the next logical price point before going to Gen 2
2. It was a Day capable device which needless to say is a huge advantage

I am trying to provide unbiased info on here by posting the actual videos even though they are not as good as actually using the scope. I still have a lot of testing to do and I will try to pass on my results on this thread.

There have been some negatives:
1. Battery Life
2. Too much MOA adjustment when zeroing
3. Eye strain if trying to use the scope for scanning

I am trying to get info as to whether the one shot zero function resets the x/y axis alignment of the reticle or if it reverts to the closest default stored value. Tried to reach techs at Pulsar but it seems most of them reside in England. I need time to test to see what results I get with regard to the amount of reticle movement.

As for battery life and eye strain, I plan to turn the scope on for shooting only and scan with my NV binoculars. If you plan to scan and shoot I suggest purchasing a 12 volt battery pack of some type.

I need to use the scope a lot more before I can personally recommend someone spend this much money, but I'm satisfied with the performance at this point. I will post new videos and info when possible.

If you need to address the scanning issue I suggest a pair of Luna binoculars or any other quality NV binoculars or monocular.
