Haven't posted here for awhile, but got good reason to now. My custom .257 Wby is finally done. Actually it was done in May with the exception of some tweeking of the trigger and an oversized bolt install and the coating. The real hold up was me not getting it posted till now. This was my first build and it was a learning experience but things all came together and the rifle is SWEEEEET!

It has no recoil at all and is just a sweet shooter. Special thanks to Ackleyman for his input, he was a huge help. I used a custom ground reamer so reloading is a must, learning and having fun doing it. Didn't coat the scope because I may upgrade to Nightforce or hopefully U.S. Optics at some point and don't want to kill the value of the scope. I have nothing against the Luepold right now.
The rifle was built by Predator Custom Shop in Knoxville, Tn.
Stock: Accuracy International.
Action: Remington 700,.257 Wby Mag, Magazine fed.
Barrel: Broughton 32" "5C" button barrel, 7.97 1000yrd F class contour, canted land, 1:9 twist. + muzzle brake.
Bipod: Harris.
Trigger: Remington @ 2-2.5 lbs.
Bolt: Remington bolt w/Tactical Operations knob. Sako extractor
Optics: Leupold Mark 4 ER/T 8.5-24x50mm.
Coating: Cerakote, custom camo pattern.
Weight:18lbs (loaded)

That is one SWEET rifle there.. And I dont see too much wrong with those optics but I know what you mean... I really like the paint job on this one.. NICE.. Gotta love the .257 WBY.. I have one in a WBY. synthetic/stainless Mark V and I love mine.. You got my vote.. That is a sweet piece there...

Only partially developed one load right now. I'm using Hornady 117gr. SST's, 64gr RL-22, Norma Brass, and Federal 215 magnum primers. I have a few other bullets to try but thought this would be a good one to start off with. Sorry no chronograph readings, hopefully soon. From what I've been told and read up on RL-22 is the way to go for the .257

32" bbl's arent light...

Nice rifle and good caliber choice. Heckuva LR coyote/antelope/deer getter.

You should see some unreal velocities with that 32" tube.

No, definately not a lightweight. Cheap bathroom scale says 18 lbs, so I'm sure it's within a pound. Broughton's website says the barrel is 9.4 lbs, plus stock, action, bipod, scope and bullets - 18 lbs sound reasonable. It was a little uncomfortable to carry with just a tee shirt, but was fine today with a jacket. I'm a pretty big guy, so it should'nt be too bad, just keep me shape.

Very interested in muzzle velocity, post them quickly after you get access to a chronograph. No doubt you'll get a work out carrying that on hunting trips.

Just plain evil!!!!! I love it. Can only imagine how huch over 4000 fps you'll get with a 75 or 87 grain pill.
I hope you can make the barrel last on her. She is pretty.

It's amazing for a Weatherby caliber to have 'No Recoil'.

I have a few Weatherby Mark V's and they all kick.

I'v actually been in a few car wrecks that hurt less than shooting my .416 Weatherby Magnum.

Beautiful gun!

Your 416 was that bad? My father had one that I put a 1-4 leupold on, that I used to love shooting out at 200 yds. That thing loved the 350 SP's. I don't recall it being that bad. I even carried it for black bear. (Thats just a testament of the joy it was to carry)
I've got the 460 and i'll admit, it isn't much fun.
Please don't think i'm questioning your "macho"ism, i'm not, i've just never seen the 416 wby talked about in the punishment catagory.
I was out of the country when my dad sold his, and it miffed me. It was a dreamgun.

As far as recoil, it's nothing, really! It's only a .25 cal so I wouldn't expect a whole lot, but the muzzle break is VERY effective. Less barrel jump than .223 Ar. Thanks for the compliments guys, this was my dream for quit a while. Funny thing is I paid for almost totally in picking up junk and scrap metal when prices were good (all legally of course).

I really like the guy's at Predator. Both guys in charge are former military, and very knowledgeable. There gunsmith is really good. They sat down with me I told them what I had in mind, they offered suggestions and helped me out where I wasn't sure about something and the job was done well. After breaking it in the trigger needed adjusting as the sear engagement was almost nothing. They fixed it, no charge, no problem. I also have a custom precision style AR from them and really like it. They definately stay busy. I would recommend them.
