Winny, I checked the run out on a couple of Rem 783's, and they are on par with a custom action. I thought I would do a test to see how rigid the actions were.


An old retired gunsmith on accurateshooter.com told me how true the 783's were...I found it hard to believe till I indicated one in. I put a 30" Heavy Palma Krieger 4 Groove in 6.5 creed on the 783, then added a boyd's stock, re built the trigger. 1/4" groups were ho hum with Hornady 140g HPBT with several powders.


Yes, the newer Remington 700's are more true than the older, just use a good recoil lug from PTG.


Indicating the barrel in to the .0001 in the throat where the bullet starts in the barrel is where the accuracy is at it's best on a quality barrel that is uniform from end to end.


Using Wind flags is where you get the fastest improvement in accuracy.
